Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2014 Product #33129 (In Stock)
Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2014 Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2014

From one of Rioja's great estates, a project dedicated to making "modern classics."  "Modern" here doesn't mean over-ripe fruit or heavy doses of sweet French oak.  Instead it means healthy, careful, farming, fermentation in open wood vats, and slow barrel aging in scrupulously clean condition. Sela is the estate's "young vine" wine (if 15-25 year-old vines are "young"!).  It's Tempranillo with splashes of Graciano and Garnacha aged in used French oak.  Lovely perfume and purity now and already gaining classic Rioja complexity and purity.  Brilliant with lamb!

"An easy to drink and fresh blend of 93% Tempranillo with 5% Graciano and 2% Garnacha. The key for 2014 was the selection of grapes (and the previous work in the vineyard, of course) because it was not easy: it was dry and warm but rained during the summer and the harvest, and there was some heat, which resulted in lots of botrytis. The wine fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak vats, followed by one year in second and third use French barriques. They first produced this in 2008, as the vines they planted when the winery started were coming of age, and they used vines between 15 and 30 years of age. It's quite fruit forward, open and clean, with good ripeness and freshness, a success for the conditions of the harvest. The palate is fine and balanced, with a soft texture, fresh and accessible."Wine Advocate 91 points

Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2012 Product #32390 (In Stock)
Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2012 Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2012

This younger-vine cuvee of Roda I scratches the super-premium Rioja itch at a very nice price.  Smooth, rich and deep.

"Very aromatic with lavender, mushroom, stone and dark fruits on the nose. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. Fermented in large French oak vats. Finesse here. Drink or hold. 96% tempranillo, 3% graciano, 1% garnacha. A beauty from a beautiful year." James Suckling 93 points

"Fragrant aromas of ripe red berries, candied rose and incense. Spicy and penetrating in the mouth, offering juicy flavors of raspberry, bitter cherry and allspice. Shows very good focus and lift--and repeating red fruit and floral notes--on the long, gently tannic finish. This wine went through its secondary fermentation in large French oak foudres and was then moved into small, used French oak barrels for another year." Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

"The 2012 Sela will be released in March 2015, and it’s a great example of Sela. It opens to bright red fruit, more shiny than 2011, and is still pretty young showing faint lactic notes and more traces of the barrel that should be absorbed with time. 2012 could be fresher and more accessible. It’s an elegant and balanced wine, with some fine-grained tannins that will be polished with bottle age. The palate is very tasty and has almost salty flavors that are quite gentle and velvety. In 2012 Sela was a blend of Tempranillo with 3% Graciano and 1% Garnacha. 99,383 bottles were produced."Wine Advocate 90 points

Bodegas Roda I Rsv 2005 Product #33075 (In Stock)
Bodegas Roda I Rsv 2005 Bodegas Roda I Rsv 2005

A more powerful, rich, take on Rioja Reserva but with more than enough age to add a layer of supple complexity.

"The purple-colored 2005 Roda I Reserva offers up aromas of toast, scorched earth, tobacco, incense, black cherry, and blackberry. More powerful and structured than the 2004, it still manages to be light on its feet, offering up plenty of succulent black fruit flavors, incipient complexity, and a 45-second finish. Drink it from 2015 to 2035."Wine Advocate 92 points
