Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Blanc 2015 Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Blanc 2015

Absolutely delicious with loads of fruit and a crisp, clean, finish. an outstanding value, too!

"60% Grenache Blanc, 20% Macabeu, 10% Marsanne and the balance Vermentino, the 2015 Cotes du Roussillon les Vignes de Bila Haut Blanc was harvest from the 1st to the 15th of September and raised all in stainless steel. Possessing fabulous notes of citrus rind, white flowers and distinct minerality, this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, bright acidity and a mineral-laced finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It’s a total steal at 14 bucks."Wine Advocate 89-91 points

Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2015 Product #31680 (In Stock)
Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2015 Chapoutier Bila Haut Cotes Du Roussillon Villages 2015

Well, now.  This is a whole lot of wine for $15 (or less!).  It's about 45% each Grenache  and Syrah plus 10% Carignan, all grown on slopes along the Agly Valley.  The gneiss and schist soils are very free draining, forcing the vines to really drive their roots down and pick up plenty of Roussillon's classic minerality to go with the dark fruit and lavender notes.  For all the richness, this is very poised and pure and while it will be lovely right now with lamb or beef it's likely to be better still in 2018.

"The jaw-dropper in the lineup was the quality of the 2015 Haut Cotes de Roussillon Villages les Vignes de Bila Haut. While the entry level wine from this estate, the quality here is incredible, especially at the price point. Made from 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 10% Carignan from a mix of the estate’s terroirs, aged in concrete tanks and stainless steel, it offers a rich, concentrated and serious feel to go with fabulously pure notes of blackberries, black raspberries, crushed rock and melted licorice. Thick, unctuous and luxuriously textured, this will certainly be the greatest vintage of this cuvee to date."Wine Advocate 91-93 points

Chapoutier Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2014 Product #31740 (In Stock)
Chapoutier Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2014 Chapoutier Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem 2014

"Occultum Lapidem" is Latin for "hidden stone,” and you’ll certainly find plenty of rocky, chalky, minerality at this wine’s core.  But, the stones are cloaked by intense fruit flavors and suggestions of savory roasted meat that will come forward with time.  This is essentially the same blend as the “regular” Cotes du Roussillon but from older vines, more limestone-rich soils and harvested at ridiculously low yields for this region.  Absolutely delicious right now with lamb, beef, or anything with loads of fresh herb, this will really sing from 2018 on.

"Another terrific vintage for this cuvee, the Syrah and Grenache-dominated 2014 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem was harvested between the 12th of September and the 3rd of October with miniscule yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare. Completely destemmed and aged all in concrete tanks, its ruby opaque color is followed by complex notes of garrigue, leather, plums and violets. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and layered, with a great texture, this fruit-forward, balanced Roussillon is already hard to resist, but will continue drinking nicely for 6-7 years."Wine Advocate 92 points

Chapoutier Bila Haut Lesquerde l'Esquerda 2013 Product #31739 (In Stock)
Chapoutier Bila Haut Lesquerde l'Esquerda 2013 Chapoutier Bila Haut Lesquerde l'Esquerda 2013

Winemaker Michel Chapoutier made his name with Northern Rhone Syrah, so it’s hardly surprising that he has a deft hand with this tricky varietal in Roussillon, too.  The soils of this hilltop vineyard are full of granite which keeps ripeness in check (even in warm 2015) and loads the wine with fine minerality and focus.  Grill some lamb and dive right in!

"From what I consider one of the top terroirs for Syrah in the Roussillon, the 2013 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Lesquerde l’Esquerda comes from the higher-elevation, granite soils located around the village of Lesquerde. Made from 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache and brought up all in concrete tank, it offers up fabulous minerality in its raspberry, blackberry, licorice, violets and crushed-rock-like bouquet. Medium-bodied, supple, elegant and seamless, with impressive purity, freshness and length, drink this terrific Roussillon over the coming 5-7 years."Wine Advocate 93 points
