Vajra Barolo Albe 2013 Product #32719 (In Stock)
Vajra Barolo Albe 2013 Vajra Barolo Albe 2013

Always one of the greatest values in Barolo, the 2013 mirrors the vintage in blending the rich power of 2010 with the elegance and perfume of 2008.  As , Giuseppe Vajra told us a few years ago during a visit to the shop, his father, Aldo Vajra, is committed to making the Barolo Albe an “important wine you can reach for on a Tuesday night.”  You can get a peek at the marvels Albe has to offer with a long decant now, but better to wait until this time next year and then enjoy as long as you’d care to wait!

"Vajra's 2013 Barolo Albe is beautifully perfumed, sensual and expressive in this vintage, with a bit less overt fruit and more aromatic/structural intensity than is often the case. The style of the Albe has always favored a more succulent expression of Nebbiolo that is quite different from the single-vineyard wines, but the 2013 suggests Vajra may be moving the Albe closer in line stylistically to their other Barolos, which I think is a positive. In any event, there is an element of restraint in the 2013 that is hugely appealing. The Albe is a blend of fruit from Fossati, Coste di Vergne and La Volta aged in 75 hectoliter casks. The Albe may be the single best value in Barolo today. As for the 2013, don't miss it!"  Vinous (Galloni) 92 points

Vajra Barolo Bricco Delle Viole 2013 Product #32720 (In Stock)
Vajra Barolo Bricco Delle Viole 2013 Vajra Barolo Bricco Delle Viole 2013

Since we first encountered it in the 2006 vintage, we've come to love Vajra's flagship Bricco della Viole Barolo.  The vineyard lies high up the side of the highest hill in the commune of Barolo.  The altitude cools the vines a bit, but the perch above the fog line gives the grapes loads of warming sunshine every day.  Only older vines from the hill go into the Cru bottling after a 40 day fermentation/maceration and 42 months aging in 25-50 hectoliter Slavoniann oak barrels.  The site and hands-off winemakinng give this unusual purity and elegance to go with the powerhouse structure and intense flavors.  The wine’s beauty is already apparent after 3 hours in decanter, but it will sing most sweetly from 2021.

"The 2013 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is a real head-turner. Sweet, perfumed, vivid and exceptionally beautiful, the 2013 is simply stunning. A wine of exceptional finesse and sensuality, the 2013 hits all the right notes. Today, the 2013 reminds me of the 2008, but with more depth, density and creaminess - especially through the middle - and slightly redder fruit tones."  Vinous (Galloni) 97 points
