Melville Pinot Noir M Block 2014 Product #32217 (In Stock)
Melville Pinot Noir M Block 2014 Melville Pinot Noir M Block 2014

For a couple of decades now, Melville has ranked high on any credible list of top California Pinot Noir estates.  And since its introduction about 6 years ago, the Block M Pinot has been one of their very top wines.  It’s a blend of Dijon 114 and 115 clone Pinot planted Burgundy-style in tightly spaced rows to force the vines to fight for water and nutrients and develop layers of flavor.  In the perfectly balanced 2014 vintage, winemaker Greg Brewer elected to keep all but 30% of the fruit as whole clusters, fermented it cool, and then aged it 100% neutral (5-10 years-old) barrels.  There’s wonderful purity and elegance here in a wine that’s perfectly balanced at 14.0% abv.  Delicious now with duck or salmon and improving through 2024.

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Block M is the most structured and tightly wound of these wines. Dark red and purplish stone fruits, cherry pit and white pepper give the 2014 much of its high-toned personality. The 2014 offers lovely density and yet the whole clusters give the wine a sense of weightlessness that is hugely appealing. The 70% whole clusters are mostly felt in the wine's structure, but less in its flavor profile."  Vinous (Galloni) 93 points

"Lots of red flowers, from roses to hibiscus, show alongside plump candied red cherries, exotic Asian spice, black tea and hearty chaparral herbs on the nose of this bottling. The palate is heavy with bay leaf, thyme and eucalyptus served atop a strawberry-cherry base. It's earthy and herbal, yet redolent with ripeness."Wine Enthusiast 94 points

Melville Pinot Noir Terraces 2013 Product #31421 (In Stock)
Melville Pinot Noir Terraces 2013 Melville Pinot Noir Terraces 2013

Since last year's review, this has opened wonderfully.

"Still slightly closed, with a focused, streamlined feel on the palate, the 2013 Pinot Noir Terraces offers a pretty and lively bouquet of sweet berry fruits, spring flowers, mint and sappy herbs. Medium-bodied, elegant and pretty, with a core of sweet fruit, it never really expands on the palate, but finished with superb length. Reminding me of a Solomon Hills release given its vibrant fruit profile, it certainly gives up plenty of pleasure, but it will benefit from a year or so in the cellar."Wine Advocate 94 points
