Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2016 Product #32020 (In Stock)
Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2016 Ch Haut-Pasquet Bordeaux Blanc 2016

Back in the old days, pretty much all white Bordeaux was a blend of the region’s three complementary grapes:  Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle.  As Loire Valley and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc became more popular in the 1980s, Bordeaux growers began phasing out first Muscadelle (too hard to grow) and then Semillon (usually pulled up in favor of Cabernet and Merlot).  The resulting Sauvignon-dominant (or 100% Sauvignon) white Bordeauxs can be a lot of refreshing, pool-side, fun – but they lack more traditional wine’s complexity of flavors and mellow, food-friendly, textures.

So, finding a traditional blend like this one is a real treat, especially at this great value price.  Give it a swirl and you’ll find a classic white Bordeaux nose of lemon/tangerine fruit, grapefruit pith, a bit of fresh mown grass, and the note of wet wool that Semillon brings to Bordeaux.  With air, a note of passion fruit and crushed savory herb emerges.  It’s light to medium-bodied and very fresh and happy in the mouth with flavors of lemon drop, tangerine, crushed herb and passion fruit puree.  On the finish, the fresh lemon and lime zest character comes forward and you’ll notice your mouth watering as the lemon and herb flavors linger on.   A lovely wine for any shellfish and herb dish or for salads with goat cheese.

Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2016 Product #32200 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2016 Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2016

A staff and customer favorite! This white Bordeaux starts with aromas of just-squeezed lemon and fresh cut grass. On the palate, there’s a nice, juicy hit of riper Meyer lemon that comes in, and the whole thing finishes mouthwateringly clean. While many white Bordeaux are blended with Semillon and Muscadelle to add waxy weight or fruitiness, Ch La Roche St Jean is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. There’s no oak to hide all that tangy fruit, and it’s a very reasonable 13.0% alcohol. If you’ve shied away from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc because of its over-the-top grapefruitiness or overwhelming, pungent passionfruit flavors, this is the perfect SB for you.

Ch Haut Queray Bordeaux Superieur 2016 Product #32556 (In Stock)
Ch Haut Queray Bordeaux Superieur 2016 Ch Haut Queray Bordeaux Superieur 2016

Even as 2015 Bordeaux begin to arrive in the USA, excitement is building for vintage 2016.  A wet winter, followed by a dry summer with just enough rain to keep the vines working, delivered wines of pristine ripeness with sweet, supple, tannins, loads of fruit, and unbelievable supple tannins.  As Wine Advocate said in their 2016 barrel tasting summary, “You will love these wines.”

As always, the best thing about a great Bordeaux vintage is how the “little guys” were able to make compelling wines that sell for a song.  Here, three women – Madam Martine Borderie with her daughter and daughter-in-law – have crafted a magnificent, pure, Bordeaux from this 200 year-old Right Bank estate just outside Lussac Saint-Emilion.  It’s 100% Merlot and made without one stick of wood.  But the aromas, flavors, and texture all scream “classic Bordeaux.”  Aromas and flavors of black and redcurrant, sweet spice, and subtle tobacco-like herb jump from the glass and coat your palate in a wine that’s silky through the middle and appetizingly dry on the long, spicy, finish.  Drink it this year with holiday lamb or beef dishes and leave a few bottles in the stylish wood case to develop even more complexity through 2021.

A classic Bordeaux based on Merlot with about 10% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc.  Year-in, year-out, this is a Robert Parker "sleeper of the vintage," and the 2015 is outstanding.  Elegant in texture, the currant and red berry fruit is nicely framed by stylish accents of herb and spice.  As Parker has said in the past, this is a "well-known Bordeaux Superieur, which has a fabulous reputation for aging 20-30 years in certain vintages...I’ve had the 1953 and 1955 in the last five years and both were still in great shape."

Ch Paveil de Luze Petit Paveil Bordeaux 2015 Product #32459 (In Stock)
Ch Paveil de Luze Petit Paveil Bordeaux 2015 Ch Paveil de Luze Petit Paveil Bordeaux 2015

From a top Margaux estate, Ch Paveil de Luze, this is pretty much everything you'd hope for in a ready-to-drink 2015 Bordeaux.  The main estate dates from the 17th Century, but this comes from a nearby vineyard not far from Margaux purchased in 2005.  It's a 70/30 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend - normal for AOC Bordeaux - that ages 10 months in French oak - unusual - about 25% of which are new - unheard of at this level!

The aromas, flavors, texture and complexity all punch well above this wine's modest price.  Bold aromas of red currant, tobacco, raspberry, and spice lead to a ripe, generous, mouthful of red berry, currant, cedar, tobacco and more.  The oak adds a lovely spice without getting in the way of 2015's generous fruit which keeps on pumping through a long, classically austere, finish.  Drink now - 2023 with increasing pleasure!

This is a gorgeous everyday wine from Cambon La Pelouse and consulting winemaker Hubert de Boüard. Tasted two times."  Vinous (Galloni) 90 points

A terrific value in 2010 Bordeaux from 35 year-old vines growing on classic Bordeaux gravel soils just outside Pauillac and St. Julien. Aged in tank (15%) and oak (85%) including about 50% new French oak.  The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and power), 45% Merlot (for body and fruit) and 5% Petit Verdot (color, perfume), all from sustainably farmed 35 year-old vines.

"A wine with sweet strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious finish. This is balanced and savory for the vintage. And it's an environmentally sustainable winery. Better after 2016."  James Suckling 92 points

"Sports bold, modern toast, with overt anise and blueberry notes leading the way, backed by racy plum and raspberry fruit. The solid finish shows the vintage's telltale graphite spine, offering lively acidity for balance. Best from 2014 through 2020."Wine Spectator 90 points

A big, rich, Bordeaux with density from Merlot (50%) and cut from Cabernet Sauvignon.  Supple and tempting now - 2032.

"A big, broad-shouldered wine, the 2012 Brown hits the palate with serious intensity and slightly rough contours that are going to need time to settle down. The high presence of Merlot (70%) and pushed, ripe style add to the wine's considerable personality. A rush of black cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, licorice and incense leaves a positive last impression."  Vinous (Tanzer) 90 points

"Nicely packed, with energetic flavors of blackberry cobbler, blueberry paste and boysenberry coulis, carried by a brambly structure and pushed by anise and ganache accents on the finish. Shows solid grip and should do well with cellaring. This has added some weight since the barrel tasting."Wine Spectator 91 points

“From the empire of the Neippergs, this brilliant 2012 Clos Marsalette has a gorgeous nose of Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, smoked herbs, blackcurrants and jammy cherries. It is medium to full-bodied, silky smooth, very sexy, complex and a total hedonistic, intellectual turn-on.
