Bodegas Borsao Garnacha Tinto 2016 Product #32789 (In Stock)
Bodegas Borsao Garnacha Tinto 2016 Bodegas Borsao Garnacha Tinto 2016

Robert Parker called the 2011 edition of this perennial favorite value red, “Possibly the single greatest dry red wine value in the world.”  The 2016 is as fine and fresh as ever.  This year it blends ripe Garnacha and a splash of Syrah, both grown on the dusty, barren, soils of Spain’s Campo de Borja region.  Naturally grown, hand harvested, and fermented and aged all in tank, it’s a perfect blend of rich, ripe, fruit and stylish, refreshing, structure.

"The flagship 2016 Borsao Garnacha is mostly Garnacha complemented with Syrah. This is also fermented in stainless steel with neutral yeasts and bottled unoaked. The Syrah might give it a little touch and some oomph in the nose, somehow spicy and a touch smoky from the skins of the variety. The palate is fleshy and juicy, very tasty, with unnoticeable tannins. It goes down easily with a velvety sensation. Superb value."Wine Advocate 89 points

Tres Ojos Old Vines Garnacha Calatayud 2013 Product #32816 (In Stock)
Tres Ojos Old Vines Garnacha Calatayud 2013 Tres Ojos Old Vines Garnacha Calatayud 2013

Here's an outstanding value from little-known Calatayud in Spain that will do just as well on the bar for a party as it will with roasted meats or robust sausage.  It's based on 85% Garnacha from 40-50 year old bush-trained vines that have to dig deep into their non-irrigated soils for water and nutrients.  About 7% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo add structure and some black fruit notes and a dash of Syrah give meaty spice.

The 2012 edition was one of our best-selling red value favorites, and the new vintage cranks up the intensity and depth even more.  The aromas are robust and fresh, with generous dollops of raspberry, violet and spice (just from the grapes - no oak used at all!).  The flavors follow with more raspberry and sweet cherry fruit, hints of dark chocolate and more spice.  With air, the fruit gets darker and richer, but a touch of citrusy acid and light, crisp, tannins keeps things fresh even as complex flavors of balsamic and baked strawberry linger.  Supple enough for a party, structured enough for most anything you’ll pull off the grill, and a steal of a deal, too!

La Tremenda Monastrell Alicante 2014 Product #32629 (In Stock)
La Tremenda Monastrell Alicante 2014 La Tremenda Monastrell Alicante 2014

We love bringing you bottles like this – wines that are both deliciously authentic expressions of a grape and place AND carrying the reassuring praise of the international wine press.  The grape here is Monastrell, better known to many as France’s Mourvedre in its starring role in Bandol and Ch Beaucastel’s Chateauneuf du Pape.  On the high plains of Spain’s Alicante region and under the care of the committed traditionalists at Enrique Mendoza, this marries rich ripeness of fruit with earthy, herbal, complexity and a finish that’s long, firm, but still very easy to enjoy.  Sure, it’s built to pair with rich stews and savory roasted and grilled meats.  But the ripe fruit and silky finish will give plenty of pleasure before the food ever hits the table.

"This wine has six months in used 500-liter barrels and a variable time in vat, between six months and one year. The 2014 feels very tender, it has the esparto grass austerity of the stony vineyards with the chalky soils and a myriad of Mediterranean herbs. They used some stems for the fermentation, which added a fine thread and makes it subtly textured. It has the dusty tannins and the saline tastiness of the limestone soils. It represents a superb value and a great introduction to the Monastrell from Alicante; the price is hard to believe."Wine Advocate 92 points

Bodegas Volver Tempranillo Single Vyd 2014 Product #32462 (In Stock)
Bodegas Volver Tempranillo Single Vyd 2014 Bodegas Volver Tempranillo Single Vyd 2014

Nothing shy about this powerful, rich, nicely oaked red that's ready for sipping and bold foods.

"The 2014 Volver Single Vineyard comes from a parcel of vines planted in 1957 called Finca Los Juncares. It is 100% Tempranillo aged 15 months in French oak and bottled unfiltered. It is a relatively small cuvée of 3,000 cases, but it’s a stunning wine, with notes of unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice and blackcurrants. This opaque purple-colored wine has a full-body, showing toasty notes intermixed with blackberry and cassis. It’s a beauty – an internationally styled, modern version of Tempranillo to drink over the next 5-6 years."Wine Advocate 92 points

Finca Rio Negro 992 Tempranillo Syrah 2015 Finca Rio Negro 992 Tempranillo Syrah 2015

A new estate working in the hills between Madrid and Ribera del Duero, a region that once produced plenty of sturdy table wine but has laid fallow for years.  This is fun and delicious, with dark plum and blueberry fruit and bold notes of coffee and smoked meat on the finish. There's nice richness to the texture and the fruit shines through on the easygoing finish.  The high altitude (992 meters) and short stay in wood (7 months) keeps this fresh and easy to enjoy.

Pago Casa Gran Falcata Blanco 2016 Product #32664 (In Stock)
Pago Casa Gran Falcata Blanco 2016 Pago Casa Gran Falcata Blanco 2016

That the folks at Pago Casa Gran can make balanced, fresh, stylish red wines on the hot, bulk-wine focused, plains of Valencia is surprising enough.  That they could make this utterly delicious, vibrant and aromatic white is pretty absurd!  Here they blend a classic aromatic Spanish white grape - Moscatel (aka the ancient varietal Muscat Blanc) – with France’s Thanksgiving-friendly Gewürztraminer to create a fabulously rich but bone dry beauty.

You'll find a supremely expressive and just a bit wild nose of exotic spice, rose petal and citrus and stone fruit that really jumps out of the glass - even with turkey and pie in the oven, you'll be able to smell this just fine!  Then you'll love how it explodes with flavors of ripe passionfruit, white peach, fresh rose, green plum and spice ranging from ginger to nutmeg to anise.  Best of all, after all that mouth-coating flavor, the wine finishes dry, crisp and minerally, making your mouth water and getting you ready for a big bite of...well, pretty much anything!  Unique, satisfying and delicious.

Finca Valldosera Cava MS 4.7 Brut Nature NV Finca Valldosera Cava MS 4.7 Brut Nature NV

Want to have a little fun?  Serve the Finca Valldosera Cava MS 4.7 Brut Nature blind to a Champagne lover.  They'll swear it's a top quality NV Champagne - and probably won't believe you when you tell them what you paid! Stunningly sophisticated, you'll find classic Champagne notes of brioche and toast plus notes of fennel and licorice.  Clean, crisp, and oh-so-elegant, this dances on the palate and delivers a long, complex, finish laden with toast and a hint of licorice. The beautiful color and fine bead keep you thinking Champagne.  The review below is from a releases ago, but still spot on!

"The Non-Vintage MS 4.7 Gran Reserva Brut Nature is the same blend as the Brut Nature cuvee but was selected from the estate’s best vineyards and spent 30 months sur lie. A bit deeper in color and more refined aromatically, it reveals an alluring palate of lemon-lime, toasted almonds, and floral notes. Mouth-filling and impeccably balanced, this superb Cava is an outstanding value meant for drinking over the next 2-3 years."Wine Advocate 91 points

Here's a dark and chocolaty Bordeaux blend with sweet currant and red raspberry fruit framed by notes of earth and expensive tasting oak. A great match for lamb and savory beef dishes!

"A blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 18% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot that matured in new French oak barriques for one year. The nose shows herbal aromas, notes of blackberries and a very faint note of leather, licorice and fountain pen ink. It has a similar character to the Petit Hipperia from the same vintage. The palate is dry, medium-bodied with some rusticity, dusty tannins and a tasty finish."Wine Advocate 90 points
