Poppy Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2016 Product #32773 (In Stock)
Poppy Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2016 Poppy Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2016

Poppy Cabernet Paso Robles has been a customer favorite in the "great value California Cab" segment for years.  How much better is the 2016 edition?  During a "Cheap vs Expensive" blind tasting class this summer, we served 30 customers Poppy Cab next to Joe Wagner's powerhouse Quilt Cabernet Napa 2015 - a Wine Spectator 91 point wine that released at $45.  Tasted blind - not knowing which was which - 20 of 30 tasters thought the Poppy was the $45 wine.  24 of 30 preferred it!

The secret here is the marriage of ripe fruit from family-owned B & E Vineyard and a cutting edge winemaking approach called thermovinification. About half the fruit is heated to 140 degrees, extracting color and flavor and blowing off the pyrazines that can give Paso Cab an unpleasant herbal edge. Mixed back in with juice receiving a traditional fermentation and aged 18 month in French and American oak, this is wine of excellent richness, fine depth, and lovely purity of fruit.  Blueberry, black cherry, currant, licorice, vanilla, and spice aromas and flavors pair with  a round, supple, wine that finishes clean and smooth and remarkably long.  A terrific value if California Cab that moves from back deck to table with style.

Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2016 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2016

Proof that Paso Cab is on the rise, with deep, dark, fruit and a smooth, fleshy, finish.

"(60% new French oak): Bright violet color. Ripe dark berry and floral aromas pick up subtle tobacco and pungent floral and herb nuances as the wine stretches out. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering appealingly sweet blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that put on weight on the back half. Youthfully tannic on the sharply focused, persistent finish, which features lingering suggestions of candied rose and mocha."  Vinous (Raynolds) 91-92 points

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a nose of crème de cassis, plum preserves, cigar boxes, and garrique with dried herbs and sandalwood in the undercurrent. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers tons of ripe black fruits, licorice and dried herbs with a chewy frame and good balance."Wine Advocate 89 points

Linne Calodo Contrarian White 2017 Product #33251 (In Stock)

From the winery: "50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Picpoul Blanc, 20% Viognier. A stunning blend of Grenache Blanc, Picpoul Blanc, and Viognier. Contrarian is 100% estate grown and co-fermented in concrete tanks. A soothing touch of minerality runs thru and connects the consumer to the land from which it comes. In all my years of producing Contrarian, I think I'm getting closer and closer to crafting exactly what I seek. Delicious from the first sip, the wine is tamed by a small addition of Viognier that helps round out the palate and pushes it to the next level. Contrarian is ready to drink now, or can age for 5-8 years."

Ledge James Berry Vynd Syrah 2014 Product #32422 (In Stock)
Ledge James Berry Vynd Syrah 2014 Ledge James Berry Vynd Syrah 2014

Amazing elegance and purity in a wine with lovely California fruit and lots of Cote Rotie style.

"An explosively perfumed, complex bouquet displays intense boysenberry, cherry liqueur, licorice, allspice and sandalwood scents, while a smoky mineral topnote gains strength with air. Completely stains the palate with sweet black and blue fruit, spicecake and candied lavender flavors that show impressive litheness for their heft. Smooth, slow-building tannins shape the finish, which hangs on with outstanding, floral-driven persistence."  Vinous (Raynolds) 94 points

"An upcoming estate I've been raving about for a few years now, Ledge is run by Mark Adams and he pulls fruit from his Estate Adams Ranch vineyard, as well as a number of other notable sites, including James Berry, and recently, G2 vineyard. Mark likes plenty of whole cluster, and isn't afraid of a touch of funk either. His wines always show lots of character and are highly recommended. Tasted at my office in Colorado and followed for multiple days. As from barrel, it's a dead ringer for a classic Cote Rotie and offers notes of black raspberries, cassis, olives, hints of bacon fat, liquid violets and pepper. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, elegant and silky, it has beautiful purity of fruit, fine tannin and a great finish, all suggesting it will evolve nicely for 10-12 years."Wine Advocate 95 points

Linne Calodo Problem Child 2016 Product #33253 (In Stock)

From the winery: "77% Zinfandel, 17% Syrah, 6% Mourvedre. Problem Child: know one, have one, or are one. This is an opulent Zinfandel blend from the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. We take dry-farmed, head-trained Zinfandel, manicure the vines and clusters for perfection and pick when the time is just right. Blended with modest amount of Syrah to widen the palate, the wine moves up the sophistication ladder; the crescendo comes from the splash of Mourvedre which rounds out the edges. The Problem Child, in all honesty, is inappropriately named and should instead be called The Gift Child. Drink now through 2025."

From the winery: "74% Grenache, 19% Syrah, 7% Mourvedre. A decadent Grenache-forward blend that screams, “Drink Me!” Rich, ripe, and fragrantly hypnotic, the wine lures you into a trance as you discover that ah ha! Moment. Black cherries, ripe raspberries, cinnamon and cocoa fill the olfactory senses as the wine slowly and seductively wraps around your tongue. It’s not a dream, this wine is that good! Sticks and Stones represents the best Grenache that we farm here at Linne Calodo. A quest to let our Willow Creek District fruit express its true colors. Drink now through 2027, but I suggest drinking it sooner than later when it is this good."
