Recorba Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2015 Product #31532 (In Stock)
Recorba Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2015 Recorba Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2015

The Recorba Ribera del Duero Tinto is an example of what happens when you get Tempranillo all the way ripe and then let it show it’s colors without any wood at all.  Big aromas and flavors of red plum, black cherry and raspberry take center stage with accents of natural spice, warm stones, and a touch of exotic sandalwood.  A huge “bang for the buck” Tempranillo to enjoy by itself or with pretty much anything you’d put on the grill.

Abadia De Acon Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2014 Product #32028 (In Stock)
Abadia De Acon Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2014 Abadia De Acon Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2014

The best wines of Ribera del Duero tend to be unoaked values or barrel aged reds that cost $30+.  So we were delighted to find this honest, rich, all Tempranillo Crianza that matches rich fruit to smoky oak at a fine value price.  You'll find Ribera's signature dark purple fruit - black plum, dark cherry, black raspberry - with attractive accents of sandalwood and spice.  Round and deep on the palate and then smooth and spicy on the long, smoky, finish, it's a great cookout and roasted meat red you'll be happy to drink before dinner, too.

"Pure Tempranillo with a commercial profile, generously oaked but not excessive, matured in oak for 14 months. The palate has abundant tannins, sweet fruit and plenty of oak-related flavors."Wine Advocate 89 points

Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2012 Product #32314 (In Stock)
Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2012 Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2012

As the Wine Advocate says, this is "textbook" Ribera del Duero to drink now - 2022.

"Deep ruby. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, violet and vanilla carry a smoky overtone. Weighty yet lively on the palate, offering juicy dark berry flavors and suave candied lavender and spicecake qualities. Smooth, plush and seamless in character, finishing with repeating spiciness, supple tannins and a lingering note of dark berry preserves."  Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

"If last year I was impressed with the 2011, the 2012 Crianza from Convento Oreja might be even better. No signs of heat or overripeness here at all but perfectly ripe, terse fruit, integrated, balanced oak and a polished, sleek palate with fine tannins and good acidity. This is a textbook crianza from Ribera del Duero."Wine Advocate 92 points

Bodegas Protos 27 Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2014 Product #32763 (In Stock)
Bodegas Protos 27 Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2014 Bodegas Protos 27 Ribera Del Duero Tinto 2014

Here's what happens when plans to create a new luxury wine meet a slight miscalculation of marketing. This is the first vintage of a brand new wine from the fine Ribera del Duero winery of Protos.  Their goal was to make a luxury wine that, unlike their Reserva and Gran Reservas, had no American oak influence and maximized intensity of fruit.  So they took 100% Tempranillo from their lowest-yielding vines, allowed it to ferment with native yeast, aged it for 16 months in all new French oak, and released it as Protos 27.

But, with no Crianza/Reserva/Gran Reserva designation on the (really confusing!) label, Spanish consumers took a look at the planned $100 and actual release $45 price and said, "We'll pass."  Their loss is your gain as a clever US importer managed to buy a small supply at a very nice discount and we're passing the savings on to you!

"A classically-styled wine that has plenty of ripe fruit with plums and chocolate on the nose. Smooth tannins. This wine builds nicely. Drink now."  James Sucking 90 points

"Cherry and boysenberry flavors mingle with black olive and smoky notes in this plush red. Features light, firm tannins and balsamic acidity. A bit reserved, but balanced, with good depth. Drink now through 2024. 900 cases made."Wine Spectator 91 points
