Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2014 375ml Product #31588 (In Stock)
Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2014 375ml Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2014 375ml

Steve MacRostie creates this classy Chardonnay from grapes grown in some of the most exciting regions of California's Sonoma Coast.  Sangiacomo and Hi Vista vineyards in Carneros give richness and texture.  Several Russian River Valley sites - including sites owned by the Dutton and Martinelli familes - give lift, purity and vibrancy.  And MacRostie's own Wildcat Mountain Vyd just west of Carneros adds fantastic complexity and length.

All of the fruit is pressed whole cluster (without destemming) to maintain clarity and freshness.  About 90% ferments and ages in (20% new) French oak for more richness and body while 20% stays in stainless steel to retain crispness and cut.

"Features a delicious core of vibrant grapefruit and lemon-laced tangerine and white peach notes, with zesty acidity that keeps the flavors fresh and jumping."Wine Spectator 90 points

Paul Hobbs Crossbarn Chardonnay 2016 Product #32456 (In Stock)
Paul Hobbs Crossbarn Chardonnay 2016 Paul Hobbs Crossbarn Chardonnay 2016

FALL FESTIVAL MIX/MATCH 2CS $17.98/EA

Paul Hobbs is one of the handful of true global superstar winemakers and it’s hard to know which is more impressive – his bold Argentine Malbecs or his silky California Cabernets, Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.  With fame came increased demand and higher prices for his estate wines, so Hobbs created Crossbarn to bring his world-class California wines to a broader audience at a more affordable price.  It’s not clear he meant them to be quite THIS affordable, but you should enjoy the crazy good pricing while it lasts.

The Hobbs Crossbarn style is to take advantage of California’s ripeness without adding any excess fat or sweetness.  So only 10% of this Chardonnay goes into barrel while 90% rests in tank with all of it going through secondary malolactic fermentation.  It’s wonderfully rich and creamy, with generous pear, yellow apple and tropical fruit aromas and flavors with a nice buttery accent.  A burst of citrusy acidity balances the richness and helps the long, fruit and butter finish linger on and on.

Neyers Chardonnay 304 Sonoma 2015 Product #31483 (In Stock)
Neyers Chardonnay 304 Sonoma 2015 Neyers Chardonnay 304 Sonoma 2015

Here's proof that "No Oak" doesn't have to mean "No Body" or "No Flavor"!  Bruce Neyere's Chardonnay 304 - for the gauge of stainless steel used for the tanks - delivers layers of rich caramelized pear and yellow apple fruit with accents of buttery caramel popcorn.  The texture is more rich, dense, and smooth than many well-oaked wines, but the purity and freshness show off the cool tank fermentation and gentle stirring of the lees.  Refreshing and fun.

"Finds a groove between ripeness, flavor and finesse, folding together with a mix of fig, pear, nectarine and tangerine notes. Glides along, with a citrusy aftertaste."Wine Spectator 90 points

Occidental Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2012 Product #31422 (In Stock)
Occidental Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2012 Occidental Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2012

Steve Kistler formed Occidental to create a smaller, more hands-on, Pinot Noir winery for himself and his daughters, Catherine and Elizabeth.  And, in just its second vintage, Occidental is already a huge success!  As Antonio Galloni said after tasting the estate’s three single-vineyard wines, “"Steve Kistler's 2012 Occidental Pinots are off the charts gorgeous... Readers who can find the Occidental Pinots should not hesitate to grab them, as they are truly magnificent."

Finding the Vinous 96-97+ point single vineyard wines is next to impossible (and, at $125-$175, expensive), so this is your best chance to enjoy Kistler’s benchmark Pinots at a very reasonable price.  The 2012 Sonoma Coast Pinot is made from fruit grown in Steve’s Occidental Station and Bodega Headlands vineyards, both perched on hills bathed in the cool wines flowing through Sonoma’s Petaluma Gap.  The barrels used for this wine were just a touch more ripe and fleshy than Kistler was looking for in his single-vineyard bottlings – but no less delicious!

The wine opens with lovely aromas of crushed raspberry and cherry, cherry blossom, loamy earth and sweet baking spice.  On the palate it’s medium-bodied (at a restrained for California 14.1% alcohol) with generous flavors of tangy raspberry, sweet red cherry, and a nice layer of barrel spice (although hardly oaky!).  The pure fruit flavors keep on flowing through a fine, pure, finish leaving fresh raspberry and spice flavors lingering on.  The fine tannins and fresh acids suggest this will just keep improving over the next 5 years or so, but it’s so delicious now that you’ll be hard put to wait.  A rare and delicious opportunity to enjoy Steve Kistler’s work for those of us not on the mailing list!
