Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2014 Product #32686 (In Stock)
Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2014 Cantele Salice Salentino Riserva 2014

Another great vintage for this long-time Italian value!

"The 2014 Salice Salentino Riserva is a heavy and concentrated wine with prune, raisin and blackberry jelly. The wine is hearty and dense with sweet flavors on the finish that are interwoven tightly with equally savory characteristics. Despite those big bones, this wine from Cantele ultimately offers good balance and a very clean and correct drinking style. It a great value, too."Wine Advocate 89 points

Cantine Farro Falanghina 2016 Product #32215 (In Stock)
Cantine Farro Falanghina 2016 Cantine Farro Falanghina 2016

This is 100% Falanghina, the best white grape of Southern Italy. From first aromas through the lingering finish, the region’s volcanic soils speak clearly here.  Aromas of tangy pineapple, peach, apricot, fresh straw and white flowers lead to tangy, brisk, flavors of stone fruit, lemon curd, and green peach.   A fantastic food wine to pair with pasta primavera, or even fennel-laced Italian sausages.

d'Angelo Sacravite Aglianico Basilicata Rosso IGT 2014 Product #31777 (In Stock)
d'Angelo Sacravite Aglianico Basilicata Rosso IGT 2014 d'Angelo Sacravite Aglianico Basilicata Rosso IGT 2014

A juicy, fresh, and surprisingly easy-drinkinng Aglianico!   As Wine Advocate says, the use of wood here is artful, softening tannins without adding any oak flavor.  Delicious stuff to enjoy with sausages, roasted peppers, or any hearty food.

"D'Angelo has managed to tame the rough and rustic nature of Aglianico from Basilicata. The use of oak seems to be the key to their success. The 2014 Sacravite, which sees five months in large oak cask, is a prime example. The tannins and the forceful nature of the bouquet have been very nicely managed here. Soft layers of dark cherry, dried blackberry, spice, leather and tar are presented with noticeable intensity. The wine offers a satisfying burst of earthiness and savory spice at the back. This vintage is a little weaker, but the wine delivers above-average results nonetheless. Sacravite is a great value buy."Wine Advocate 89 points

Capolino Perlingieri Falanghina Preta 2016 Product #32970 (In Stock)
Capolino Perlingieri Falanghina Preta 2016 Capolino Perlingieri Falanghina Preta 2016

Last year's  92 point review from Vinous still applies here: "White pepper and minty herbs complicate apple and pear aromas. Clean, fresh and juicy, with sneaky concentration to the fresh orchard fruit and aromatic herb flavors. Remarkable Falanghina del Sannio, not exactly the first name I think of when looking for a concentrated, complex Italian white, but this outstanding wine has a lot more stuffing than is common in this category."  A delicious, complex, and really fun Italian white for shellfish and seafood.

Ippolito 1845 I Mori Gaglioppo Cabernet 2015 Product #32805 (In Stock)
Ippolito 1845 I Mori Gaglioppo Cabernet 2015 Ippolito 1845 I Mori Gaglioppo Cabernet 2015

Because who didn't awake this morning and ponder, "What's a good Gaglioppo/Cab blend to enjoy tonight?" This is nice and fleshy but stays elegant with raspberry jam fruit accented by notes of crushed thyme, fig, and mineral.  A subtle spice note winds in and out as the red berry and fig fruit flavors linger on the lightly tannic finish.  Yummy.

Terredora Di Paolo Fiano Di Avellino 2014 Product #30729 (In Stock)
Terredora Di Paolo Fiano Di Avellino 2014 Terredora Di Paolo Fiano Di Avellino 2014

Terredora’s “basic” wine is a benchmark for classically styled Fiano, with loads of tropical fruit and a rich, full-bodied, texture balanced by mouthwatering acidity and laser-like focus.  Grapes harvested in the first 10 days of October ferment and age in steel including a few months on the lees.  The aromas and flavors are captivating if hard to describe:  flowers, pear, apricot, citrus, acacia, herb honey and toasted hazelnut notes weave in and out.  Brilliant stuff!

"Rich aromas of apple, herbs and flint. Very fresh and saline, showing a juicy mouthfeel and sneaky concentration to its stone fruit and herb flavors. Finishes with noteworthy persistence."   Vinous (D'Agata) 90+ points

d'Angelo Serra Delle Querce 2013 Product #31968 (In Stock)
d'Angelo Serra Delle Querce 2013 d'Angelo Serra Delle Querce 2013

With a nod to "Super-Tuscan" wines, we might call this a "Super-Basilicata" red - if anyone knew where that is!  At the top of the arch of Italy's boot, this blends the region's best red grape, Aglianico, with 50% Merlot shows the benefit of aging in French oak.  Sexy and round with dark, rich, black fruit framed by notes of coffee, smoke, chocolate and spice. The sweet currant and raspberry fruit gets a lift from juicy Italian acids and flows on through the supple, smooth, finish.
