Ca Donini Pinot Grigio 2016 Product #32729 (In Stock)
Ca Donini Pinot Grigio 2016 Ca Donini Pinot Grigio 2016

A very fine Pinot Grigio value to enjoy for casual sipping and pour at parties.  Offers up clean, fresh, aromas of apple and melon with a hint of honeysuckle.  The flavors follow the aromas and pick up a touch of pear and fresh flowers on the palate.  Enough weight that it will show well with light or casual food and a lemony, fresh, finish that's thirst-quenching and fun.  Enjoy!

Accordini Amarone Classico Le Bessole 2011 Product #32373 (In Stock)
Accordini Amarone Classico Le Bessole 2011 Accordini Amarone Classico Le Bessole 2011

Accordini’s Amarone from the famous Cru (vineyard) of Le Bessole has all the heft and power you love in Amarone with just a touch of elegance and freshness from higher-altitude vineyards.  It’s got all the power and structure you’d expect from Amarone to go along with spicy dark fruits like dried cranberry, currants, cherries, and more.  But, instead of the plodding heaviness, prune-like flavors, and vinegar-like volatile acidity Amarone can fall prey to, this is fresh, clean, and very pure.  Spicy fruit, chocolaty richness, and an intense, spicy, and dry finish make this a great match for grilled pork tenderloin, baby back ribs, or even a well-marbled steak.  Compare it to wine costing $50-$75 or more – you’ll be convinced!

“Aromas of ripe raspberry jam, plum, menthol and baking spice lead the nose on this bold red. The dense palate delivers raisin, dried black cherry and licorice alongside assertive, close-grained tannins that grip the finish.” Wine Enthusiast 90 points

“An elegant red, with aromatic violet, citrus peel and spice notes leading to wild cherry and black raspberry fruit, layered with supple tannins and a note of fresh, loamy earth that lingers on the chewy finish. Drink now through 2026.” Wine Spectator 91 points

Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore 2013 Product #32834 (In Stock)
Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore 2013 Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore 2013

This is one of those, "I had no idea that kind of wine could be so good!"  In this case, the wine is Valpolicella, which gets tons of attention in its Amarone (dried grape) form, but not so much in the traditional form.  And, to be fair, most straight Valpo isn't worth much attention for all of it's juicy, thirst-quenching, fruit.  Easy drinking, everyday, red value is the normal form.

Nothing "everyday" or even "traditional" here!  Roccolo Grassi is considered a "modernist" for his commitment to harvesting at perfect ripeness, fleshy extraction, and use of new French oak.  And his decision to air-dry about half the grapes used here, giving this a dash of Amarone depth and power without the over-the-top alcohol or dried fruit. There's amazing richness and depth here, with bold and generous dark fruit and complex accents of smoke, chocolate, walnut, nutmeg and milk chocolate.  As fine as Valpo ever gets.

Musella Recioto 2011 (375ml) Product #32081 (In Stock)
Musella Recioto 2011 (375ml) Musella Recioto 2011 (375ml)

Recioto is Amarone left sweet - in this case, gloriously, richly, deeply, sweet but remarkably fragrant and fresh, too.  Musella only makes Recioto in great vintages, using the very best grapes of the harvest dried on straw mats for 150 days.  The aromas and flavors here call to mind dried cranberry, raspberry and raisin with a bunch of wild herb (thyme? Rosemary?) and then sweet black cherry and raspberry on the finish. A burst of red berry acid cleans up the finish and pulls you back for more.  A blend of  Corvina 50% Corvinone 10%, Rondinella 10%, Croatina 15%, Oseleta 15%  fermented in open top oak fermenters and then aged 2 years in neutral barrel.

Acinum Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2012 Product #31953 (In Stock)
Acinum Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2012 Acinum Amarone della Valpolicella Docg 2012

The review way under-rates this wine - an Amarone that's both fun to drink and food friendly.

"Black-skinned fruit, pressed violet and a whiff of chopped herbs lead the nose on this full-bodied red. The bold palate offers high-toned flavors of ripe black cherry, black raspberry, mint and a hint of fig uplifted by fresh acidity. Firm, velvety tannins give it a smooth texture."Wine Enthusiast 93 points

Roccolo Grassi Amarone 2012 Product #33171 (In Stock)
Roccolo Grassi Amarone 2012 Roccolo Grassi Amarone 2012

As Wine Advocate said a few years ago, "Of the “modernist” school in Valpolicella, Roccolo Grassi delivers some of the most distinctive red, white and dessert wines in northern Italy." In the difficult 2012 harvest, this is a marvel of deep richness, chocolaty smoothness, and intense power.  Smoky black plum, tobacco and Christmas spice aromas gain strength in the mouth where black pepper, milk chocolate and super-ripe raspberry flavors emerge.  Finishes firm and long and intense.  Better from 2020 but tasty now with a decant.
