Another classic release for this pioneer of Oregon's Chehalem mountains. A bit richer and broader than in some releases - 2013 was warm before the late rains - with a pretty note of smoky oak.

"Fresh and expressive, light-footed and generous, with cherry, plum and apricot flavors, coming together smoothly on the open-textured finish."Wine Spectator 90 points

Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014 Product #32093 (In Stock)
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014

If you want to drink a terrific Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from the man Wine Spectator called “A Master of Pinot Noir in Oregon” at less than half the price of his single vineyard wines…well, this is going to make you very happy indeed.  Made from younger vines and more forward (i.e., less tannic) barrels from 10 of Ken’s 13 single-vineyard wines, the 2014 WV Pinot has loads of pretty fruit, a light and lithe feel, and just enough structure to pair with food and improve for a year or two – but not enough to get in the way of weeknight solo sipping now.  Excellent value.

"Ken Wright produces as many as a dozen or more single-vineyard Pinots in any given vintage. This wine is blended from many of those same sites, whose vines were often planted back in the 1980s. It's light and elegant, yet powerfully flavorful, with strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit pushing deep into the palate. It's clean and fresh, with crisp defining acidity, perfect balance, refined tannins and a long finish."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2015 Product #32437 (In Stock)
Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2015 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills 2015

Jim Maresh’s focus is on single vineyard Pinot Noir, so in most years, he sells off any barrels or lots that don’t make it into the final single vineyard cuvee.  In excellent years, though, that wine is just too good to part with, so he supplements it with fruit from neighbors and bottles this wine:  the Dundee Hills cuvee.  The 2014 was the first release of the Dundee Hills bottling in a few years.  It was a fine, 90-point, gem that Wine Advocate called “probably the bargain of the vintage."  The 2015 is better.

Oregon’s 2015 vintage looked and felt a lot like 2014 – warm weather, big harvest, bold fruit.  The difference is that the 2015s have better structure and style, both of which are on display here.  You’ll find ripe, dark red, fruit on the nose here with accents of blood orange and subtle smoke.  Wonderfully generous and vivid in the mouth, the dark cherry and plum fruit expands and coats your palate before savory notes of licorice and mushroom come in on the back.  The flavors linger nicely over fine, silky smooth, tannins that promise delight with food and 7-10 years improvement in cellar.  Terrific, delicious, stuff.

Taking Pinot Blanc to a whole new level with 7 months aging on the lees in a fine, ripe, vintage. Dry and salty on the finish.

"This barrel-fermented wine drinks like a beautifully proportioned Chardonnay. It takes bright, intense fruit flavors of melon, yellow apples and green bananas, and puts a Burgundian spin on the mouthfeel with judicious acids and a touch of caramel. It's delicious, complex and should age nicely for another five to six years."Wine Enthusiast 93 points

Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2015 Product #31758 (In Stock)
Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2015 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2015

This has been one of the best values in Willamette Valley Pinot Noir for years, but in 2015 it really soars.  This year 75% of the barrels came from sedimentary soils in Ribbon Ridge and Chehalem Mountain AVAs, 15% from Freedom Hill and 15% from volcanic soils in the Dundee Hills.  It’s genuinely lush and a bit showy now with opulent aromas and flavors of crushed black raspberry, dark cherries, exotic flowers, smoke and damp earth.  Mouthfilling and showing a glyceryl richness, but with vivid acids, fine tannins, and no excess of weight.  As Jim and Patty say, “There are seriously great bones here and this wine will stand up to many, many much higher priced bottlings… In short, this wine is a smoking deal!!

"Deep red. Expansive red berry and floral pastille scents and flavors show impressive energy and pick up a hint of smokiness as the wine opens up. Smooth and fleshy but lively as well; a late jolt of white pepper adds spicy bite. Generous but vibrant in character, finishing very long and sweet, with gentle tannins lending shape and subtle grip. This wine delivers exceptional bang for the buck."  Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

Eyrie Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2013 Product #31773 (In Stock)
Eyrie Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2013 Eyrie Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2013

Eyrie – the site of the Willamette Valley’s very first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plantings – has been on fire with Chardonnay for years.  Here’s a little of the 2013 to whet your appetite for what’s to come.  As the reviews suggest, it’s all the better for having had a few years in bottle.

"The 2013 Estate Chardonnay comes from vines planted in 1965, the cuttings from Spring Mountain Vineyard that originally came from Wente. It has a very defined bouquet with citrus lemon, white peach and honeysuckle scents that are very focused. The palate is well balanced, resinous on the entry, again more a texturally focused white Oregon wine than one determined to cudgel you over the head with flavors. It becomes waxy toward the finish with a judicious dab of shaved ginger. This is understated and very succinct, but it deserves two or three years in bottle. Drink 2017-2028" Wine Advocate 90 points

"Spicy pear and apple fruit is at the core, with suggestions of green pineapple, mint and lemon verbena. The subtle herbs and citrus components are layered throughout, and the structure favors long term cellaring." Wine Enthusiast 92 points

Subtle and a bit enigmatic, this compelling effort should be tucked away and tasted again in 2020. Drink 2020–2030."Wine Enthusiast 93 points

Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vyd 2011 Product #30181 (In Stock)
Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vyd 2011 Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vyd 2011

Yes, you can certainly taste and enjoy Murto 2011 right now, but don't.  There is so much potential here still locked up in the bright,  minerally, structure that just won't unfurl and show itself until 2019 or so.  Already the bright red fruit, spice, and floral profile of a great Dundee Hills Pinot is easy to smell and taste.  And if, like me, you place a special priority on vibrancy, the sizzling cut and lift on display right now will make this hard to resist.  For those who wait, though, there will be richer, deeper, sweeter fruit to come along with plenty of earth and spice depth.  My personal favorite in a brilliant set of wines.

"Highly perfumed aromas of red fruit liqueur, Asian spices, rose oil and musky underbrush, with a subtle touch of smokiness in the background. Silky and penetrating on the palate, showing very good clarity to its spicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors. The spiciness builds on the finish, which is firmed by silky, building tannins. Quite elegant in style and balanced to age, although it's already delicious."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points

From biodynamically farmed vines on the marine sedimentary soils of Yamhill-Carleton.  Tangy black raspberry, black cherry and raspberry fruit shines on the nose and gains sweetness on the pure, focused, palate.  Accents of spice and summer flowers weave in and out from front through the long, juicy, almost salty finish.  Delicious now with salmon or poultry; will improve for years.

"Bright red. Spice-tinged raspberry and cherry scents are complicated by hints of cola, musky flowers and smoky minerals. Sweet and focused on the palate, offering energetic red and dark berry flavors; suggestions of rose pastille and blood orange add complexity. Vibrant and precise in character, delivering strong finishing cut, gentle tannins and very good, tangy persistence." Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vyd 2013 Product #30727 (In Stock)
Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vyd 2013 Belle Pente Pinot Noir Murto Vyd 2013

The classic dark, smoky, aromas and rich, concentrated, texture of Dundee Hills Pinot Noir shines through from first sniff through the long, complex, finish.  Red raspberry and cherry fruit is framed by smoky stone, spice and cola complexity in a wine that finishes sweet, smooth and rich.  Tempting right now with duck or pork or beef and sure to gain more weight with time in cellar or decanter.

"Limpid red. High-pitched red berry, Asian spice and mineral aromas are complicated by a suave floral quality. Incisive raspberry and bitter cherry flavors slowly gain flesh and become sweeter in the midpalate while maintaining vivacity. Impressively precise, vibrant and pure, delivering strong finishing cut and silky, harmonious tannins that make a late appearance. This wine should age gracefully on its balance." Patricia Green Pinot Noir Volcanic Cuvee 2015 Product #32034 (In Stock)
Patricia Green Pinot Noir Volcanic Cuvee 2015 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Volcanic Cuvee 2015

While Patty Green's best known Estate and Freedom Hill sites are on marine sediment soils, she and co-winemaker Jim Anderson also make some blockbusters from volcanic soils in the Dundee Hills.  This showcases and highlights the dark, smoky, character of these volcanic sites using fruit from Balcombe, Durant, and Weber vineyards.  All Pommard from vines at least 38 years old, this gets a touch of whole cluster fermentation but no new oak to allows the signature of site to shine through.

So, that deep, dark, smoky note you get on the nose and palate?  That's the soil talking (not oak).  Asian spice and purple flower notes add complexity to the intense dark raspberry and black cherry fruit.  For all the ripeness of the old vines and 2015 vintage, this remains vibrant and fresh and finishes with lingering notes of sweet fruit, smoke, spice and fine-grained tannins.  My note from tasting it with Jim Anderson back in March:  "I want to drink this!" 332 cases made.

We love how this cool site shines in warm vintages like 2014.  Vivid and bright but with typical velvety texture.

"Deep-pitched red and dark berry aromas are complicated by suggestions of succulent herbs, cola and lavender, and a subtle vanilla nuance emerges slowly with air. Juicy, focused and pure, offering gently sweet black raspberry and cherry cola flavors, a touch of licorice and a jolt of peppery spices. The impressively long, penetrating finish is framed by supple tannins that fold smoothly into the clinging dark fruit."  Vinous (Raynolds) 92 points

Walter Scott Chardonnay Cuvee Anne 2015 Product #31908 (In Stock)
Walter Scott Chardonnay Cuvee Anne 2015 Walter Scott Chardonnay Cuvee Anne 2015

Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon make four different Chardonnays - three single vineyard wines and one "best of the cellar" barrel selection - Cuvee Anne.  In 2015 it's from Freedom Hill, X Novo and Gibson Vineyards, with all the fruit fermented and aged in French oak puncheons (double barrels) - one new and four used - for 11 months. The result was 490 cases of simply stellar Chardonnay - the strongest argument we know of that Oregon is destined to deliver world-class Chard.

While I'm sure the Wine Advocate 92 point 2014 edition was excellent, it could hardly be better than this wonderfully rich 2015.  The aromas really draw you in with lovely scents of peach, apricot, grilled pineapple, light vanilla and toasted nut.  The palate is subtle and poised, with very pure stone fruit and white flower flavors lifted by citrus acids and complicated by notes of buttered nut and salty stone.  The wine is as smooth as silk and gains amplitude and complexity with air, bringing out more definite fruit and nut notes and a fine, briny, complexity.  Decant this for an hour now and enjoy through 2025.

Patricia Green Pinot Noir Estate Old Vines 2015 Product #32035 (In Stock)
Patricia Green Pinot Noir Estate Old Vines 2015 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Estate Old Vines 2015

One of the best sites in Oregon's most exciting AVA, Ribbon Ridge, Patricia  Green's Estate vineyard sits on Wellsford soils - a marine sediment that's very fine, almost talc-like.  These thin, exceedingly well drained, soils are perfect for older vines that dig their roots down deep to the water and mineral sources below.  This bottling showcases the oldest vines here, own-rooted Pommard clone Pinot planted between 1984 - 1990.

Even in warm, sunny, ripe vintage 2015, these old vines always deliver an amazing streak of minerality on the palate and nose.  The aromas are Burgundian, with dark griotte cherry fruit framed by notes of earth, mineral and spice.  On the palate the wine shows fine grip and intensity, with a rich mouthfeel and plenty of raspberry/cherry fruit plus black pepper spice.  As Vinous said of the 92 point 2014, it's "At once concentrated and nervy, finishing with excellent focus and suave, late-arriving tannins."  Very exciting in 2015.  About 1,000 cases made.

Amalie Robert Syrah Satisfaction 2011 Product #30997 (In Stock)
Amalie Robert Syrah Satisfaction 2011 Amalie Robert Syrah Satisfaction 2011

Yes, wonderfully elegant and very Northern Rhone-style Syrah from the southern Willamette Valley.  Remarkable stuff.

"The 2011 Syrah Satisfaction includes 50% whole-cluster fruit of four Rhône clones (plus a touch of co-planté Viognier vines). Not picked until November 14, it has an attractive bouquet with macerated red cherries, Provençal herbs, juniper berries and a touch of melted wax. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe red berry fruit mixed with blueberry, Seville orange marmalade and a healthy pinch of white pepper lending the finish that Rhône "vibe." Very linear at the moment, the finish is quite tight. I would actually cellar this for one or two years as it should repay handsomely."Wine Advocate 91 points

St Innocent Pinot Noir Shea Vyd 2013 Product #30479 (In Stock)
St Innocent Pinot Noir Shea Vyd 2013 St Innocent Pinot Noir Shea Vyd 2013

Generally recognized as Oregon’s “Grand Cru” vineyard, Yamhill’s Shea Vineyard always delivers a bit more power and intensity than the typical site.  St. Innocent’s wine comes from a mixture of Pommard and Dijon clones growing  on Willakenzie soils at about 400 feet elevation.  The wine is more dense and black-fruited than most of Mark Vlassok’s other wines, and is matched only by Justice for firmness of structure.  In 2013, this has lovely purity for the site and finishes long and firm.  Limited.

"Bright ruby. Sexy, smoke-tinged aromas of red and dark berry preserves, candied flowers and mocha, with a hint of sandalwood in the background. Sappy, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated blackberry, cherry-cola and rose pastille flavors that tighten up on the back half. This suave, seamless wine finishes with excellent clarity and length, its silky tannins building slowly."  Vinous (Reynolds) 92 points

"A much more expressive nose features both red and dark berry scents where added breadth is present in the form of spice, earth, briar and smoky hints. The mouth feel of the medium weight flavors is unusually sleek for the Shea vineyard with fine intensity though the classic muscularity is present on the dusty, robust and impressively lingering finish. This isn't an elegant wine but it does make a statement. Patience will definitely be required."Allen Meadows 91 points

Broad and fleshy but animated on the palate offering fleshy nectarine and pear nectar flavors and hints of candied ginger vanilla and buttered toast. Finishes smooth broad and long delivering a repeating ginger flourish and strong cut."  Vinous (Raynolds) 90 points

"The 2012 Chardonnay Heirloom Cameo is whole-cluster pressed and fermented in 500-liter puncheons and underwent partial malo before maturation in barrel without lees-stirring for 14 months. It has an attractive bouquet with citrus lemon, candied orange peel and yellow flowers that is nicely defined and neatly integrated the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a rich and generous entry, waxy in texture with touches of toffee apple and shaved almond on the finish.
