Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015 Product #33165 (In Stock)
Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015 Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015

Chateau Moulinat is located on limestone, gravel and sandy soils in Bordeaux's Entre Deux Mers region, between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne.  It's 58% Merlot (for plump richness), 36% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and finesse) and 6% Cabernet Franc (for herby perfume). This all-tank red is utterly delicious right now (even though you can hold it for 3-5 years if you'd like).  It's remarkably plump, plush and rich and loaded with blackcurrant and dark cherry fruit.  The Cab Franc delivers pretty accents of dried herb and tobacco on the nose and palate while the Cab Sauv provides a nice, focused, touch of structure.

We're not the only ones who like 2015 Ch Moulinat.  The Washington Post's wine critic, Dave McIntyre, tweeted, "Textbook Bordeaux, with all the right flavors of graphite (pencil), black currant etc etc, but without the stress of a high price tag and the need to cellar it for years. What’s not to like about this wine? $14, and a terrific value."  His "official" review was just as enthusiastic:

"Textbook Bordeaux, offering the traditional “pencil” graphite aromas over scents of plum, cherry and blackcurrant. And the wine kept getting better over a few days, suggesting it will last for several years in your cellar. Sustainably farmed."  Washington Post ***/*** (Exceptional)

Ch La Roche St. Jean Bordeaux Rouge 2016 Product #33036 (In Stock)

A great value Bordeaux that just keeps getting better! It’s a blend of un-oaked Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%) from the sand, clay and limestone soils of Bordeaux’s Entre Deux Mers region – part of the “Right Bank” that excelled in the outstanding 2016 vintage.

Deep black currant, cedar, and dark chocolate aromas and flavors hold center stage with classic Bordeaux notes of cedar, tobacco and crushed herb emerging on top.  Mouthfilling and dense enough to demand attention but never heavy or thick or plodding.  And the finish is smooth and long with lingering flavors of fruit, cedar, chocolate and spice.

"The 2014 Larose-Trintaudon has a stylish bouquet, well defined and quite minerally with blackberry and wild strawberry scents to the fore. The palate is well balanced, clean and pure with real vibrancy and joie-de-vivre. It builds nicely in the mouth and gains more and more precision towards the sophisticated finish. Ch Les Conseillans Reserve De Pre-Carre 2015 Product #32887 (In Stock)
Ch Les Conseillans Reserve De Pre-Carre 2015 Ch Les Conseillans Reserve De Pre-Carre 2015

A bold, rich, velvety Bordeaux made of ripe, rich, plummy, Merlot which gives the wine plenty of dark red fruit and a round, velvety, texture.  About 3% each of Malbec and Cabernets adds a touch of fresh minerality (Malbec) plush herbal/tobacco complexity and fine, firm, structure (Cabernets).  Aging in used French oak barrels adds polish and spice without overwhelming the fruit. You’ll love the bold redcurrant, black plum, and black raspberry fruit aromas and flavors and how the notes of crushed herb, tobacco and spice add complexity and depth.  And you’ll especially enjoy how the wine really envelopes your palate, feeling rich and plush and velvety from front to back. Don’t let the “drink from 2020” worry you – this is delicious and fun to drink tonight from first pop and pour!

Best Buy! This rich, ripe and generous wine is full of blackberry fruit and tannin. It's powerful, with a solid structure and fine fruitiness. As a result, it has good aging potential, so drink from 2020."Wine Enthusiast 90 points

Ch Paveil De Luze Petit Paveil Bordeaux 2016 Product #32956 (In Stock)
Ch Paveil De Luze Petit Paveil Bordeaux 2016 Ch Paveil De Luze Petit Paveil Bordeaux 2016

From a top Margaux estate, Ch Paveil de Luze, this is pretty much everything you'd hope for in a ready-to-drink 2016 Bordeaux.  The main estate dates from the 17th Century, but this comes from a nearby vineyard not far from Margaux purchased in 2005.  It's a 70/30 Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend - normal for AOC Bordeaux - that ages 10 months in French oak - unusual - about 25% of which are new - unheard of at this level!

The aromas, flavors, texture and complexity all punch well above this wine's modest price.  Bold aromas of red currant, tobacco, raspberry, and spice lead to a ripe, generous, mouthful of red berry, currant, cedar, tobacco and more.  The oak adds a lovely spice without getting in the way of 2016's generous fruit which keeps on pumping through a long, classically austere, finish.  Drink now - 2024 with increasing pleasure!

Cinnabar Mercury Rising 2014 Cinnabar Mercury Rising 2014

While this is technically a "Bordeaux blend" - meaning Cab, Merlot, etc. - you'll do better considering it a true "red blend."  Fruit from cool Alexander Valley give it freshness while grapes from hot Lodi, Dry Creek Valley and Paso Robles add plenty of heft.  Bold blackberry, cassis, oak spice and cedar aromas really pop on the rich, dense, palate and keep on pumping through a firm, powerful, finish. Bold red for a brisket, ribs, or burgers.

Ch Guiraud Le G De Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2015 Product #33139 (In Stock)
Ch Guiraud Le G De Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2015 Ch Guiraud Le G De Bordeaux Blanc Sec 2015

Like nearby Ch d'Yquem, Ch Guiraud makes dry wine as well as sweet from it's Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon vineyards in Sauturnes. In 2015, it's a big, rich, wine with generous tangerine and lemon pulp fruit and just a touch of woolly complexity.

"White Bordeaux wines are typically based on sauvignon blanc, but they don’t resemble the racy style we identify with New Zealand or the firm, minerally wines of the Loire Valley. That’s usually because of the addition of semillon in the blend, to add an oily richness and expansive texture. Bordeaux blanc ranges from cheap, inexpensive and inconsistent wines for quick drinking to rather pricey, age-worthy collectibles. The G by Chateau Guiraud falls in between, offering great quality at a moderate price. It has considerable heft, so drink it with dinner, not as a cocktail. Guiraud is a top producer of Sauternes, the famous sweet wine of the region. The G shows it can do dry just as well."  The Washington Post ***/*** (Exceptional)

"Nectarine, pithy fruit on the nose. The palate is crisp and fresh with plenty of citrus fruit, dried pineapple and green apples on the energetic finish. Give this a year once in bottle and you'll have a great G de Guiraud. Drink 2017-2025"Wine Advocate 89-91 points

Ch Senejac Haut Medoc 2014 Ch Senejac Haut Medoc 2014

Outstanding vintage, outstanding small producer. Decant or cellar 10 years.

"The 2014 Senejac has a withdrawn but well defined bouquet with more undergrowth aromas than many of its peers, unreservedly classic in style (and there is nothing wrong with that). The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe blackberry and boysenberry on the entry, a slight tinniness on the back palate with a very tightly wound finish."Wine Advocate 90 points

"This is a structured wine that has both firm tannins and ripe black plum fruits. It is concentrated and serious, the wood aging and the fruit tannins giving a lift and richness to the spicy fruit. The estate, dating to the 17th century, has 96 acres."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Secret Squirrel Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend 2014 Product #32890 (In Stock)
Secret Squirrel Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend 2014 Secret Squirrel Columbia Valley Bordeaux Blend 2014

The Corliss family owns two premier Washington State wineries.  Corliss is located in the Red Mountain AVA and focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietals.  Tranche is in the Blue Mountains and does mainly Rhone blends.  The owners are VERY particular and selective of which barrels go into their flagship wines, especially at Corliss where the focus is on making very long-lived Cab blends.  Barrels that are too full of fruit, soft and supple for the big wines are blended after 14+ months in new and a little used French oak.

While Corliss won’t reveal the full “secret” of this blend, we know it’s mainly Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon plus Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec from Corliss and Tranche.  In the warm, ripe, rich 2014 vintage it’s a warm, ripe, rich wine.  Aromas of ripe blackberries and sage, with a hint of coffee invite you to take a sip. The flavors are bold, dark and rich, with powerful flavors of blackberry, black currant and dark plum accented by notes of tobacco and spice.  Despite all these dark, rich flavors, the fruit flavors are vibrant and exciting and the finish is firm enough for a steak, but not too firm to sip alone. You won’t want to keep this a secret!

A terrific value in 2010 Bordeaux from 35 year-old vines growing on classic Bordeaux gravel soils just outside Pauillac and St. Julien. Aged in tank (15%) and oak (85%) including about 50% new French oak.  The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and power), 45% Merlot (for body and fruit) and 5% Petit Verdot (color, perfume), all from sustainably farmed 35 year-old vines.

"A wine with sweet strawberries and raspberries on the nose. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious finish. This is balanced and savory for the vintage. And it's an environmentally sustainable winery. Better after 2016."  James Suckling 92 points

"Sports bold, modern toast, with overt anise and blueberry notes leading the way, backed by racy plum and raspberry fruit. The solid finish shows the vintage's telltale graphite spine, offering lively acidity for balance. Best from 2014 through 2020."Wine Spectator 90 points

The Moueix family are a force on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, important in both Pomerol and Saint-Emilion.  Their Château Tauzinat l'Hermitage is smack in the middle of the Saint-Emilion plateau on one of the best clay/limestone sites in the Commune.  Always seductively textured and aromatic.  Drink 2020 – 2038.

“The 2015 Tauzinat L'Hermitage is dense, powerful and explosive. A wine of depth and character, the 2015 possesses notable depth throughout. The style is ripe and explosive to the core, yet the 2015 also shows terrific persistence through to the finish along with considerable aromatic complexity that adds nuance. There is certainly plenty to like here.”  Vinous (Galloni) 89-92 points

“The 2015 Château Tauzinat l'Hermitage has a refined, quite understated, but poised bouquet that blossoms in the glass, scents of briary and woodland coming through with aeration. The palate is precise on the entry, structured with good backbone, counterbalanced by exuberant blackberry and strawberry notes on the lightly spiced finish.
