Rubus Cabernet Sauvignon California 2015 Product #31862 (In Stock)
Rubus Cabernet Sauvignon California 2015 Rubus Cabernet Sauvignon California 2015

If you're looking for subtle, elegant, sophisticated California Cabernet...then look elsewhere.  Because this is rowdy, pumped up, boldly fruited, vanilla and chocolate-laced Cab with French oak spice and a finish as plump as a feather pillow.  Importer and Master Sommelier Fran Kysela created the Rubus label so he could find under-appreciated fruit in great growing regions and turn it into crowd-pleasing wines a wallet-delighting prices.  This is the best we've tasted in the series, with good heft (at just 13.5% abv) and oodles of chocolate-covered cherry fruit and sweet oak spice.  Soft enough to sip at a casual cookout, bold enough to enjoy with burgers, steaks or lamb, and affordable enough to share with a crowd.

Chapelle Saint Antonin Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Chapelle Saint Antonin Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Proof that you can find a great (and great value) bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon outside of Bordeaux or Napa!  This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from France's Languedoc region, harvested ripe in the outstanding 2016 vintage, aged in tank, and bottled up fresh for you.  Hearty and deep, this showcases classic Cab notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark chocolate with an elevating dash of herb and spice.  The dark fruit flows on through the finish where a note of hot stone smokiness emerges and melds with the spice and herb.  Rich and smooth enough to just sip and a great companion at table, too.

Tilia Cabernet Mendoza 2015 Product #31734 (In Stock)
Tilia Cabernet Mendoza 2015 Tilia Cabernet Mendoza 2015

A very fine Cabernet value, this is plump with dark currant fruit and accents of chocolate and herb, finishing ripe and easier than the review suggests.  Nice stuff.

"The grapes for the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon were harvested at three different points of ripeness to achieve better balance and complexity. This usually has some Syrah from Barrancas in east Mendoza. There are varietal aromas, clearly herbal, perhaps a little blurry, in the shape of tobacco leaves, blackberries and a touch of spice. The palate is soft, with some dusty tannins giving it an austere profile."Wine Advocate 89 points

Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2014 Product #31569 (In Stock)
Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2014 Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2014

This Wahluke Falls Cab sells for $23 at the winery and comfortably outperforms that price point.  The fruit is fully ripe and rich - but not over-ripe or pruney - with generous aromas and flavors of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark raspberry and crushed herb.  A full 18 months in 53% new barrels (one-third American, two-thirds French oak) gives the wine a supple and plush mouthfeel and loads of cocoa, vanilla, and rich sweet spice notes.  The finish is remarkably long for a $20-$30 bottling, with layered currant, berry, cocoa and spice flavors flowing out over fine-grained tannins that melt away gently.  A great choice to pair up with roast beef, grilled lamb, or roasted vegetable dishes or to just pop and pour at a big celebration.  A lot of wine for the money!

Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015 Proemio Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 2015

Here's a real winner in the "A Lot of Wine For The Money: Cab Division."  This is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown at 2,300 feet elevation, where plenty of sunshine ripens the fruit to rich perfection and cool night air locks in freshness and vibrancy.  You'll love the big Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, tobacco, and chocolate.  In the mouth, it's ripe and densely packed with currant, cherry, black raspberry spice and chocolate flavors.  There's a nice herb and chocolate complexity here, but the fruit really holds center stage.  Big enough for steak or lamb, but easygoing enough to just drink at a party or on the deck, this is outstanding value in rich, drinkable, Cab.

This well-priced California Cab is a true treat.  The aromas and flavors are classic:  red and black currant, blackberry, dark chocolate, spice and herb.  Where this stands out is in how rich, creamy, and chocolaty it feels in your mouth!  With air a bit more vanilla and spice emerge and flow through with juicy raspberry and chocolate flavors on the appealingly sweet and smooth finish.  A fine sipper, great party wine, and fun bottle for burgers or steaks.

Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Max Reserva 2015 Product #32250 (In Stock)
Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Max Reserva 2015 Errazuriz Cabernet Sauvignon Max Reserva 2015

Real, ripe, lush Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 25% new French oak and loaded with fruit, smoke, herb and spice.  As WA says, it's "a steal."

"Beautiful aromas of blueberries and currants with a hint of stone and concrete. Medium to full body, firm and lightly chew tannins with a dusty texture. Hints of chocolate and hazelnut nut. A cab that gives you pleasure and interest. Drink or hold."  James Suckling 92 points

"The 2015 Max Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from their estate vineyards in the interior of the Aconcagua Valley, cropped from an early, warm and dry year. The wine matured in French oak barrels, 25% of them new, for 12 months before bottling. The wine is impeccable, with a nice Cabernet structure, and in fact it feels like a much more expensive wine. It has a slightly commercial profile, but it's less sweet and has a lot less oak than before. The price is a steal. The palate is vivacious and has a very good finish and a notable absence of menthol or eucalyptus, very clean and with focused fruit."Wine Advocate 92 points

A pretty luscious bottle of Cabernet here with generous black fruit - plum, blackberry - framed by milk chocolate and fresh herb.  Smooth and dense and delicious!

"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Antiguas Reservas is mostly from 20-year-old vines from Buin and a small part from Macul. It matured in second use French barriques for 12 months. It's marginally more concentrated and complex than the Don Matías, with some tannins and a touch of oak."Wine Advocate 89 points

The 2013 edition of this ripe and fruit-filled Paso Cab earned 90 points from Wine Enthusiast and this sleek 2014 is  just as fine.  Blueberry, blackberry and red currant fruit provide a solid core while accents of gravel, spice and a touch of smoke add complexity and interest.  Luxurious and smooth on the palate, this finishes with dark chocolate, blue/black fruit, sweet spice and very fine tannins.  A great value in classic American Cabernet.

Rubus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2015 Product #32398 (In Stock)
Rubus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2015 Rubus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2015

Master Sommelier/Importer Fran Kysela creates Rubus wines to deliver lots of regional and varietal character at remarkably modest price points.  And "modest" the price is here for a real Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with plenty of fruit, flavor and power.  At just 13.5% alcohol, this isn't hot, fat or over-the-top.  Instead you'll get a bold nose of black currant, blackberry, and dark plum fruit with a touch of vanilla and spice from five months in French oak.  It's plush, lush and rich on the palate with deep black currant and berry fruit wrapped in creamy oak and lifted by a nice touch of crushed herb and eucalyptus.  Finishes velvety and smooth with big fruit and lingering notes of chocolate and spice.  A great Napa Cab for sipping, parties and - of course - a thick and juicy steak!

Catena Cabernet Sauvignon Agrelo 2014 Product #31987 (In Stock)
Catena Cabernet Sauvignon Agrelo 2014 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon Agrelo 2014

A GREAT burger Cab, this is loaded with rich fruit and spice in a plushly textured wine that finishes with a deep chew of ripe fruit.

"From vines planted in 1973; cropped at one cluster per shoot. Bright, dark red. Ripe yet cool aromas of cassis, licorice and menthol. Supple, spicy and slightly medicinal; in a rather Old World style for a Catena wine but still with lovely fruit sweetness. The deep clay soil stayed cool in 2014 but the fruit was not affected by rot, according to Vigil. Began a bit clenched, with the acids and tannins out of sync, but harmonized nicely as it opened in the glass."  Vinous (Tanzer) 90 points

Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa 2014 Product #32543 (In Stock)
Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa 2014 Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa 2014

Think about what you’re hoping to get from $50 Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.  Bold aromas of blackcurrant, crushed blackberry, chocolate, and spice for sure.  Oodles of dark berry and currant fruit with bold accents of sweet spice, dark chocolate, and a bit of creamy mocha – that sounds good.  And a plush, velvety, texture that feel luxurious and rich and finishes smooth, lush and long with the tannins nicely cloaked in lingering black fruit and spice seals the deal.  You’ll find all that here in a wine that’s ready to drink right now with beef and lamb and will actually get better still over the next 5+ years.

It’s 100% Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, with most of the fruit coming from the red-hot Oak Knoll district in the southern part of Napa.  Cooling breezes from the bay helped moderate 2014’s warmth and lengthen hang time for the small, intense, berries.  A slow, two-week, fermentation with manual punch-downs followed by 15 months in 50% new French oak mellowed the powerful extraction and added lovely notes of spice and herb.  And somehow sliding in under the critics’ tasting agendas helps us keep the price of what really should be a $50 bottle to very user-friendly levels.  A delicious, extremely high-value, Napa Cab.

Wow - best in years here at this old-school Napa institution.  It's 100% Cabernet the heart of Napa - Rutherford, Oakville and St. Helena - aged 22 months in new and older French oak.  It smells great with bold black currant, spice and smoke aromas that lead to big flavors of currant, blackberry, cassis and chocolate.  Spice and baker's chocolate flavors fan out on the long, dry, savory finish that leaves a bit of Rutherford Dust behind.

Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013 Product #31389 (In Stock)
Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013 Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley 2013

A new wine from this traditional producer, one that breaks out their juicy, intense, Knights Valley fruit into a wine of its own. Stylish, with black cherry, currant, and red raspberry fruit, a fleshy middle, and nice length before finishing with classically grainy tannins. Grill a steak and enjoy!

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Knights Valley), all Knights Valley fruit in this vintage, is superb. Raspberry jam, spice, scorched earth, rose petal, cloves and new leather are some of the signatures. Knights Valley is often noted for Graves-like sense of gravel-infused minerality, naturally allied to a California expression of fruit. That is exactly what readers will find in the 2013."   Vinous (Galloni) 91 points

For reasons we don't quite understand, this is the last vintage the winery will be making this 95% Cabernet aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 18 months.  It's a stylish Napa Cabernet, with loads of redcurrant, berry, and currant fruit accented by notes of coffee, chocolate, cedar, and tobacco.  Delicious from first sip, this gains length and depth with air, with more coffee/mocha notes emerging over the fine-grained tannins.  Tastes like a $50+ bottle and ready now with steak and lamb.

Marietta Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2014 Product #32565 (In Stock)
Marietta Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2014 Marietta Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2014

Rich, dark and yummy, this sports a big dose of ripe tannin that's fully cloaked by the fruit and that melts away nicely.  Release price was $40, making this an enven better now!

"This is the first year Marietta has produced this Cabernet Sauvignon from a south-facing vineyard perched at 1400 feet elevation overlooking the Yorkville Highlands. This small block of clone 6 Cabernet is cane pruned and yields “2 tons per acre in a good year via many insanely small open clusters”. It was aged in neutral barrels for 20 months. Deep garnet-purple, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Game Trail displays a spicy nose of cloves, cinnamon and Sichuan pepper over a core of crème de cassis, dried Mediterranean herbs and black soil. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the generous fruit is well supported by grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with lingering mineral suggestions."Wine Advocate 93 points

Goldschmidt Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Hillary Goldsch 2014 Goldschmidt Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Hillary Goldsch 2014

Oakville is the heart of Napa Cabernet both geographically and in style.  This is pretty much the essence of Oakville Cab in a terrific vintage.  It's old-fashioned Clone 7 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown in sandy loam soils and harvested at just 3 tons per acre.  20 months in 25% new French oak rounds things out and adds a nice spice.  Delicious right now and a fine wine to lay down for 5-15 years.

"This grows at a vineyard on Highway 29 just north of Oakville Cross Road; it’s clone 7 Cabernet planted in 1980 on sandy loam soils. The wine is relatively light in color and in its overall gracious impression, while still offering generous fruit richness in a fresh and friendly Cabernet. Simple and elegant."Wine Enthusiast 91 points
