Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2010 Product #28944 (In Stock)
Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2010 Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2010

Shirley Roy never meant to make two wines from her 20 or so acre estate in a crook of Napa’s Soda Canyon.  But, winemaker Philippe Melka felt the vineyard spoke with two voices – one aristocratic and intense, the other softer, more plush and mellow.  Prop Red is the second of those voices, a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon with 26% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.  After dropping half her crop in 2010, Shirley was rewarded with this ripe and welcoming red that’s already delicious and sure to improve for years.  A bit of a cross between the black-fruited 2008 and the finer, more detailed, 2009.

“Roy’s 2010 Proprietary Red has a little more delineation and nuance than the 2009. Freshly cut flowers, violets, super ripe dark fruit, mocha, espresso, chocolate, plums, cassis and black currants all jump from the glass in this opulent full-bodied huge wine. Layers of fruit continue to build to the creamy, expressive finish.  Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.”  Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate 92 points

“Bright medium ruby. Aromas of blueberry, coffee, mocha, truffle and chocolate show a slightly porty quality. Fat, smooth and lush in the mouth, offering immediate accessibility. The truffley element carries through on the palate. This nicely rich, layered blend finishes with dusty tannins and good length.”International Wine Cellar 90 points

Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2013 Product #31556 (In Stock)
Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2013 Roy Estate Proprietary Red 2013

Winemaker Philippe Melka is a wizard with texture, and this always marries fine levels of Napa power with super silky, plush, tannins for structure and aging potential.  The 2013 Prop Red shows the classic energy and structure of this great, great, Napa vintage, so try to leave some of this in a cool place until 2019 or so to get everything it has to offer.

"A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot. This wine was aged in 85% new Taransaud oak for 19 months prior to bottling of 650 cases. The wine is a beauty, with loads of charcoal, scorched earth, blackcurrants and blackberry fruit present, along with underlying smoky notes. It is dense purple, full-bodied, and rich, with moderate tannin. This wine will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring and drink well for another 20-25 years."Wine Advocate 96+ points

Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mt 2013 Product #32106 (In Stock)
Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mt 2013 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mt 2013

A rarity - a wine from Randy Dunn that you can actually enjoy now (with a 2 hour decant)and for decades.

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a towering majestic wine. Rich, powerful and yet massively tannic, the 2013 possesses a stunning combination of super-ripe fruit, bright acids and plenty of supporting structure. In the early going, the Howell Mountain is a bit reticent, especially next to the Trailer, but after several hours, the vibrancy of the Howell Mountain bottling dazzles. Dunn's Howell Mountain Cabernet is without question one of the wines of the great 2013 vintage."  Vinous (Galloni) 98+ points

"The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain boasts an opaque color, abundant notes of blackberries, spring flowers and blueberries, fabulous richness and a distinctive, singular smell of pen ink. With great intensity, formidable body, sweet tannin and a long finish, it should drink well for 25+ years."Wine Advocate 95-97 points

Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selectiion 2013 Product #31507 (In Stock)
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selectiion 2013 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selectiion 2013

Special Selection is just that – a special bottling made from the best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon grown by the Wagner family each vintage.  And, in a vintage Robert Parker calls “the finest vintage I have experienced in tasting North Coast varietals over the last 37 years,” the “best barrels” are very fine indeed.  It’s always a big, rich, wine that pumps out oodles of dark currant, chocolate covered plum, mocha, sweet spice, and rich blackberry aromas and flavors.  On release, the wine can be almost overwhelming in its rich, creamy, density but there are plenty of the firm (but very ripe) tannins needed to support long-term aging.

"Zeroes in on a rich, hedonistic core of wild berry, blackberry, plum and currant, with a graceful, elegant mouthfeel and supple, caressing tannins leading to a long, powerful and refined aftertaste that keeps reverberating while maintaining a strong personality. Drink now through 2030."Wine Spectator 95 points

Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 Product #26196 (In Stock)
Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 Roy Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Drinking beautifully right now, this is a rare "Library" release just received direct from the winery.  A stunning example of maturing Napa Cabernet!

"These wines certainly merit far more attention. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot (585 cases), was aged 24 months in 100% new Taransaud barrels. This is a younger, fresher, less complex style of wine, with loads of loamy soil as well as some volcanic/charcoal/ember-like notes that are vaguely reminiscent of a top Graves from Bordeaux. It is opaque purple, opulent, medium to full-bodied, rich and very satisfying. Drink it over the next 15 or so years. Drink 2015-2030" Wine Advocate 93 points

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Product #31827 (In Stock)
Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

We won't have the chance to sample Quilceda Creek's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon until this Friday (join us from 3-7pm and try it yourself!), but we're confident it will be at least as outstanding as the 99 point 2013 edition.  It's 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from three top Columbia Valley vineyards:  Champoux, Palengat and Wallula Gap.  Aged for 20 months in new French oak, it always has the power to cellar for 20 years and the supple fleshiness to impress young.

Here are winemaker Paul Golitzin's notes:  "The 2014 growing season started with early heat and vine development. High heat throughout the summer and promoted vine stress, with final ripening occurring in late September and October under ideal conditions. The 2014 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley is an absolutely amazing wine. Packed to the brim with floral aromas and flavors of blackberry, blueberry, black cherry and plum fruit intertwine with nuances of cacao nib, anise, soy, forest floor and minerals. Incredibly pure and complex, this richly textured wine is totally seamless in all of its parts, allowing for its silky texture to shine through on the palate with a finish that last for minutes. Drink now – 2036."
