Les Vigneaux Chardonnay Pays D' Oc 2014 Product #29849 (In Stock)
Les Vigneaux Chardonnay Pays D' Oc 2014 Les Vigneaux Chardonnay Pays D' Oc 2014

This ripe and fresh no-oak Chardonnay comes from stony vineyards deep within the heart of France's Languedoc region, not far from the famed Mas de Daumass Gassac.  The vineyards lie in a valley northwest of Montpellier where warm sunshine promotes ripening and cool nighttime breezes from the Mediterranean help retain freshness and fruit flavors.

Fresh aromas of juicy pear, golden apple and a hints of peach and honeysuckle lead to a nice, generous, mouthful of fresh fruit, toasted nut, and honeysuckle.  The crisp, fruity, acids build from the middle to the back to give this a lip-smacking, mouthwatering, finish as pear, apple and floral notes linger nicely.  A fine all-around Chardonnay for fish, chicken, or simply sipping.

Glenbrook Chardonnay California 2015 Product #32005 (In Stock)
Glenbrook Chardonnay California 2015 Glenbrook Chardonnay California 2015

The family behind Glenbrook winery has been growing grapes and making wine in California for five generations.  And, if this Chardonnay is any evidence, it doesn’t appear that they’ve changed much since they first started!  Their 2015 Chardonnay is a throwback to the days when “rich” and “buttery” we words of praise for California Chard.  And the modest price and remarkably modest alcohol levels (just 13.0%!) are throwbacks to the days when all anyone cared about was making a tasty bottle of wine to be drunk with delight and for fun.

Give a glass a swirl and you’ll have no trouble finding the big aromas of orchard fruits and buttered popcorn with accents of hazelnut, caramel, and truffle.  Take a sip and you’ll love the mouth-coating, smooth, texture and bold flavors of ripe apple and pineapple fruit cloaked in rich butter and caramel.  Swallow and wait for it:  the deep flavors flow onto a surprisingly fresh finish where fruit and salty butter flavors linger.  Rich enough to serve with scallops or lobster if you like, but the fresh, buttery, flavors are pretty darn fun on their own.

St Kilda Chardonnay Southeastern Australia 2016 Product #32033 (In Stock)
St Kilda Chardonnay Southeastern Australia 2016 St Kilda Chardonnay Southeastern Australia 2016

St. Kilda Chardonnay pretty much exacly what you hope for (but don't often get) in a fine value Chardonnay: refreshing, fruit filled, and balanced.  Take a sniff and enjoy the aromas of ripe pineapple and golden delicious apple. Take a sip and enjoy those same ripe fruit flavors along with just a hint of oak, just enough to round out the flavors and add a hint of nutty complexity; just enough to make the wine really say “Chardonnay” and not “anonymous cheap white wine.”

It finishes fresh and mouthwateringly clean, with just a touch of juicy apple flavor lingering on your palate. If you’ve got a crowd descending on your house for a Mothers’ Day, graduation, or upcoming Fathers’ Day gathering, this is a wine to stock up on a case or two. You’ll have it to pull out any time you need something to serve at a party or just crack open at the end of a long day.

Dom Bernier (Les Frères Couillaud) Chardonnay 2015 Product #30615 (In Stock)
Dom Bernier (Les Frères Couillaud) Chardonnay 2015 Dom Bernier (Les Frères Couillaud) Chardonnay 2015

The brothers Couillaud are among the most outstanding winegrowers of the western Loire Valley.  And while their Muscadet is terrific, it was this complex and distinctive Chardonnay that captured our attention.  The 2015 harvest yielded plump, ripe, Chardonnay fruit with plenty of heft and balancing acidity.  They fermented about 8% in barrel and the rest in concrete tanks, allowing all of the wine to go through malolactic fermentation.  The result is an amazingly rich, creamy, almost Meursault-like Chardonnay with the zesty cut and minerality of a top Chablis.  Honey, cream, chalk, and tart green apple aromas and flavors are delivered with nice energy and drive and linger on a long, mouthwatering, brilliantly complex finish.  A tad richer and deeper than the 2014, but just as pure and mineral and delicious.

Poppy Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands 2014 Product #30882 (In Stock)
Poppy Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands 2014 Poppy Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands 2014

A young winery - founded in 2003 - with a pretty simple mission:  Make wine folks will enjoy!  And that's what this fun, fruit-filled, and lightly oaked Chardonnay does very well.  It's all from Poppy's vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands, first planted in 1972.  Warm sunshine got the grapes fully ripe and bursting with flavor.  Cool nights kept the acids fresh and held the alcohol down to a nicely balanced 13.5%.  About 30% of the wine was done in stainless steel - for fresh, bright fruit - and the rest with oak for creamy richness and complexity.

The 2014 is even better than the 90 point 2013.  You'll find plenty of richness here, with good dollops of grilled pineapple, ripe pear, golden apple, buttery oak and a round, creamy, texture. Turns more crisp in the mouth with apple and bright pear fruit and notes of green apple and butter lingering nicely.  A great party Chard for casual sipping and pretty darn versatile at table, too!

Jackhammer Chardonnay Central Coast 2014 Product #32025 (In Stock)
Jackhammer Chardonnay Central Coast 2014 Jackhammer Chardonnay Central Coast 2014

The Dooley and Garber families created Jackhammer in 2011 for a simple reason:  there just wasn't enough California Pinot and Chard available that was both good and affordable.  We have no idea why they thought this brand name communicated that, but this no-oak Central Coast Chardonnay is a winner!  It's loaded with ripe apple, pear and citrus fruit aromas and flavors, sports a nicely plump and mouthfilling texture, and finishes juicy, mouthwatering and dry.  A great Spring/Summer Chardonnay option for sipping and seafood. No oak, but plenty of fun!

Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2014 375ml Product #31588 (In Stock)
Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2014 375ml Macrostie Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2014 375ml

Steve MacRostie creates this classy Chardonnay from grapes grown in some of the most exciting regions of California's Sonoma Coast.  Sangiacomo and Hi Vista vineyards in Carneros give richness and texture.  Several Russian River Valley sites - including sites owned by the Dutton and Martinelli familes - give lift, purity and vibrancy.  And MacRostie's own Wildcat Mountain Vyd just west of Carneros adds fantastic complexity and length.

All of the fruit is pressed whole cluster (without destemming) to maintain clarity and freshness.  About 90% ferments and ages in (20% new) French oak for more richness and body while 20% stays in stainless steel to retain crispness and cut.

"Features a delicious core of vibrant grapefruit and lemon-laced tangerine and white peach notes, with zesty acidity that keeps the flavors fresh and jumping."Wine Spectator 90 points

Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2015 Product #31659 (In Stock)
Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2015 Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2015

Back when the 2010 Bishop's Peak Chardonnay released at $15 per bottle, Wine Advocate said, "If there is a better California Chardonnay for the money, I would like to know about it," and Steve Tanzer's IWC said, "This delivers serious bang for the buck."  The only thing that's changed over the years is that the wine has gotten even better and - at least hear - not a $1 more expensive to you.

In 2015, 100% of the ripe Chardonnay fruit comes from Oliver's Vineyard in the Edna Valley - plenty sunny enough to get ripe flavors but so chilled by Pacific Ocean breezes that the wine finishes at 13.4% abv.  About half the wine ferments and ages in old (flavorless) French oak barrels - that gives the wine complexity and roundness.  And half is done in stainless steel tanks for maximum fruit and freshness.  Once blended, it's 100% delicious in a "Wow! - That's amazing!" kind of way.

"Meyer lemon, quince, white flowers and smoky minerals on the lively, incisive nose. Nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors show very good clarity and a complementary subtle honeysuckle quality. Juicy and precise on the clinging finish, which strongly echoes the mineral and floral notes."  Vinous (Raynolds) 90 points

Dom Raphael Sallet Macon-uchizy 2015 Product #31446 (In Stock)
Dom Raphael Sallet Macon-uchizy 2015 Dom Raphael Sallet Macon-uchizy 2015

You’ve probably never heard of the little village of Macon-Uchizy, but it’s well known in Burgundy itself.  With its east-facing vineyards, Uchizy gives wines of fine ripeness but a touch more perfume and delicacy than is often found in the Macon.  And, Raphael Sallet is just the man to capture the region’s potential in a bottle.  Sallet is relatively unknown in this country, and you won’t find much about him in the wine press either.  That’s because he’s widely respected for quality and value within France and has never had to bother to cultivate a reputation in the US.

Taste the wine, though, and you’ll know just how good Raphael is!  Aromas of ripe apple, white peach, apple skin, green pineapple and a touch of hazelnut and crushed chervil with just a touch of salty caramel hiding underneath.  Then bright and creamy textured in the mouth with clean apple, white peach, and lemony citrus fruit accented by notes of cultured butter and dried caramel.  A note of chalky mineral shows up on the back and continues on the pretty, clean and tasty, lemon/lime and peach skin finish.

As always, an amazing amount of pure, no-oak, Chardonnnay for the money.

"The highlight in this range from Foxglove, the 2014 Chardonnay packs a serious punch for the money. Bright, juicy and exuberant, the Foxglove Chardonnay will thrill readers looking for a budget-priced Chardonnay. Lemon peel, white flowers and mint meld together in a rich, beautifully layered Chardonnay long on class. Aging in steel and blocked malolactic fermentation keep the flavors bright, but there is no shortage of depth or intensity. This is a fabulous wine, especially considering its modest price." Vinous (Galloni) 90 points

"Made by some of the best Chardonnay winemakers in California, Jim and Bob Varner, the value-priced 2014 Chardonnay released under the Foxglove label sports a light gold color to go with exotic notes of pineapples, melon, citrus blossom, spice and hints of green herbs. Dom Louis Michel Chablis 2013 375ml Product #29453 (In Stock)
Dom Louis Michel Chablis 2013 375ml Dom Louis Michel Chablis 2013 375ml

Half Bottle. Guillaume Michel crafts his “village” level Chablis from seven different Chablis vineyards located on both sides of the river.  The organically farmed vines are up to 50 years of age and produce clean, ripe, succulent fruit – even in difficult vintages like 2013.  From the classic green-tinged color and modest 12.5% alcohol, you might expect this to be sharp or green tasting, but even with no oak to hide any flaws, it’s a lovely marriage of generous, ripe green and yellow apple, tangerine, and lemon/lime fruit and Chablis classic cut and salty stone minerality.  An easy wine to enjoy all by itself or with a wide range of foods, but you certainly will love it with traditional Chablis matches like oysters and clams!

"Tangerine, spice and hazelnut overtones emerge from Louis Michel's 2013 Chablis. This textured, expressive, mid-weight Chablis is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years."  Antonio Galloni 87-88 points

"A more complex nose features notes of exotic dried yellow fruit, white flowers and a whiff of sea breeze. There is more volume and better punch to the delicious, clean and somewhat drier finish. This too will be approachable young."Allen Meadows 86-89 points

Yes, Butter is back – and it’s just as fine as ever!  Former Rombauer winemaker Rob Lloyd and his partners a JaM wines have turned out another full-throttle, frankly oaked, and richly butter Chardonnay in the fine (if small) 2015 vintage.  As always, you’ll find big aromas of ripe pear, golden apple, spicy oak, vanilla and creamy butter.  And, the big flavors of super-ripe tropical and orchard fruits, smoke, spice, vanilla bean and still more fresh butter coat your palate with a richly textured, smooth, opulent texture.  What’s new is a touch more vibrant acidity from front to back and a newfound sense of delineation and clarity to the flavors.  More of a “baby Rombauer” than ever!

Juilien Brocard sources the Chardonnay for this crackling value white from the Kimmeridgien soils of Auxerrois, just west of Chablis.  Named for the Dorset, England, town where it was first cataloged, Kimmeridgien soil consists of layers of dense chalk and softer clay encrusted with tiny fossilized sea shells (you’ll find a stylized drawing of an Ammonite shell right on the label). Offering excellent drainage and plenty of mineral nutrients for the vines, Kimmeridgien soils give the best wines of Champagne, Sancerre, and Chablis lovely ripeness with unique accents of flinty, salty, minerality.

In the rich 2015 vintage Brocard crafted a perfectly ripe and utterly delicious Bourgogne Blanc with no oak.  Clean, fresh, aromas of citrus peel, green apple, flint and seashell really pull you in for a sip.  You’ll find a vibrant, but nicely rich, mouthful of yellow apple, peach, lemon and lime zest fruit enlivened by juicy acids and salty stone minerality.  The texture is smooth, with no hard edges, and the lovely fruit and wet stone flavors linger on very nicely.  The weight of Macon, a touch of Central Coast Chardonnay fruit, and a stony Chablis finish combine perfectly in this seductive white value.
