Vina Siegel Crucero Chardonnay 2016 Product #32397 (In Stock)
Vina Siegel Crucero Chardonnay 2016 Vina Siegel Crucero Chardonnay 2016

What a find!  Vina Siegel has delivered solid value from Chile's Colchagua Valley for years, but this 2016 Chardonnay under the super-value Crucero - "Crossroads" - label is the best we've tried yet. This is a rich, fruit-filled, Chardonnay with plenty of ripe orchard fruits, pineapple and mango aromas and flavors.  A short stay in oak adds vanilla, coconut and spice accents that add complexity to the richly textured mid-palate and length to the fruity vanilla finish. An exceptional value in rich, nicely oaked, and very smooth Chardonnay with plenty of fruit and a fresh, dry, finish.

Roblar Chardonnay California 2015 Product #32551 (In Stock)
Roblar Chardonnay California 2015 Roblar Chardonnay California 2015

This well-respected Sta. Rita Hills estate turns out a glorious value Chardonnay from fruit grown in cooler slices of Lodi.  Rich, generous, aromas of baked apple, ripe pear, sweet spice lead to a round, nicely textured, mouthful of spiced orchard fruit with a just right touch of caramel.  There's fine depth and amplitude to the flavor and the broad, palate-coating, finish of baked pear, french butter and spice.  The texture and depth here suggest a nicely oaked $30 Carneros Chardonnay, but there's no oak and only one-third the cost!  A great party wine (balanced nicely at 13.5%) and fine match for poultry, mushrooms and cream sauces.  Outstanding value!

Les Vigneaux Chardonnay Pays d' Oc 2015 Product #32266 (In Stock)
Les Vigneaux Chardonnay Pays d' Oc 2015 Les Vigneaux Chardonnay Pays d' Oc 2015

This ripe and fresh no-oak Chardonnay comes from stony vineyards deep within the heart of France's Languedoc region, not far from the famed Mas de Daumass Gassac.  The vineyards lie in a valley northwest of Montpellier where warm sunshine promotes ripening and cool nighttime breezes from the Mediterranean help retain freshness and fruit flavors.

Fresh aromas of juicy pear, golden apple and a hints of peach and honeysuckle lead to a nice, generous, mouthful of fresh fruit, toasted nut, and honeysuckle.  The crisp, fruity, acids build from the middle to the back to give this a lip-smacking, mouthwatering, finish as pear, apple and floral notes linger nicely.  A fine all-around Chardonnay for fish, chicken, or simply sipping.

Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2015 375ml Product #32827 (In Stock)
Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2015 375ml Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Estate 2015 375ml

A ripe but restrained style of Chardonnay from one of California's coolest growing areas. A fun dinner or pre-dinner treat!

"Aged in French oak barrels, 25% of them new, for 16 months. Limpid yellow. Potent, mineral-accented tropical and orchard fruit aromas show very good clarity and a sexy floral overtone. Taut, minerally and delineated on the palate, which displays juicy pear, tangerine and pineapple flavors that become deeper with air. Concentrated yet lively as well, closing taut and very long, leaving dusty mineral and citrus pith notes behind."  Vinous (Galloni) 93 points

"Opening with exuberant white peach, lemon curd and grapefruit notes with suggestions of marzipan and crushed stones, the medium-bodied 2015 Chardonnay Estate delivers refreshing citrus and minerally flavors with a racy acid line and good length."Wine Advocate 90 points

Egret Chardonnay Sonoma County 2015 Product #32782 (In Stock)
Egret Chardonnay Sonoma County 2015 Egret Chardonnay Sonoma County 2015

A California Chardonnay showing upper-$20s quality and character at a price nicely below that!  Egret comes from Carneros-based Bonneau Vineyards, and most of the fruit is from their home vineyard there.  About 25% of the wine ages in barrel (used) and the rest in tank, allowing 2015's generous, ripe, pear peach, and citrus fruit to shine through.

The texture - feeling rich, creamy and a bit spicy - is exceptional at this price point, as is the satisfyingly ripe and juicy pear fruit.  An attractive squirt of fresh orange lifts the long, spicy, finish.  Really delicious for sipping and parties and a great companion for roasted poultry and rich shellfish.

Dom Lemonier Macon Villages 2016 Product #32869 (In Stock)
Dom Lemonier Macon Villages 2016 Dom Lemonier Macon Villages 2016

This is a "second label" from a well-respected Macon producer - same wines, but different label for a smaller importer.  When Wine Advocate tasted through their Pouilly-Fuisse and single-vineyard Macons from 2016, they concluded, "These are great wines from winemaker Pierre-Emmanuel Sangouard and they come recommended, notwithstanding their wallet-friendly price tags." That certainly applies to this stunning, entry-level, Macon Villages.

It's 100% Chardonnay made all in tank from the outstanding (if painfully small) 2016 vintage.  A bit shy on the nose right now, but bold and intense on the palate.  Lip-smacking acids support a fine load of ripe and fleshy citrus and orchard fruit flavors.  The definition here is superb, with flavors of fruit, fresh butter, toasted hazelnut, and chalky mineral each distinct and yet perfectly integrated.  We love the energy, length and drive here - and love the value price even more!

Varner Chardonnay Foxglove 2014 Product #31842 (In Stock)
Varner Chardonnay Foxglove 2014 Varner Chardonnay Foxglove 2014

As always, an amazing amount of pure, no-oak, Chardonnnay for the money.

"The highlight in this range from Foxglove, the 2014 Chardonnay packs a serious punch for the money. Bright, juicy and exuberant, the Foxglove Chardonnay will thrill readers looking for a budget-priced Chardonnay. Lemon peel, white flowers and mint meld together in a rich, beautifully layered Chardonnay long on class. Aging in steel and blocked malolactic fermentation keep the flavors bright, but there is no shortage of depth or intensity. This is a fabulous wine, especially considering its modest price." Vinous (Galloni) 90 points

"Made by some of the best Chardonnay winemakers in California, Jim and Bob Varner, the value-priced 2014 Chardonnay released under the Foxglove label sports a light gold color to go with exotic notes of pineapples, melon, citrus blossom, spice and hints of green herbs. Supple, forward and straight-up delicious on the palate, with no hard edges and a clean, classy profile, it's a steal at the price and will drink nicely for a year or three."Wine Advocate 90 points

Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2016 Bishops Peak Chardonnay Central Coast 2016

The folks at Talley have really upped their game with the 2016 Bishop's Peak Chardonnay.  All of the fruit comes from the famous  Oliver's Vineyard (the Talley version of this sells for $50), blending a bit of barrel fermented juice from the big wine into the stainless steel base.  Lovely aromas of lemon, white peach and jasmine lead to flavors of creamy orange, juicy pear and lime zest.  Crisp and refreshing with a touch of chalk at the end.  An outstanding value.

"(raised in a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral French oak barrels) Limpid yellow. Fresh pear, melon, orange zest and a hint of chamomile on the nose; a subtle hint of leesiness emerges slowly. Juicy and round on the palate, offering ripe citrus and orchard fruit flavors accented by a smoky nuance. Silky and focused on the finish, which shows good lift, spicy cut, and very good, floral-driven persistence." Vinous (Raynolds) 90 points

Sbragia Chardonnay Home Ranch Dry Creek 2016 Product #32542 (In Stock)
Sbragia Chardonnay Home Ranch Dry Creek 2016 Sbragia Chardonnay Home Ranch Dry Creek 2016

Ed Sbragia made his name – and the winery’s fame – during a 32 year tenure as Beringer’s head “winemaster.” This 100% Chardonnay comes from Ed’s “Home Ranch” vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, just 1 mile from Dry Creek and the Russian River. The ripe fruit is hand harvested, sorted, and then fermented and aged “sur lie” in French oak (just 10% new).  The result is a fresh, vibrant, wine that delivers plenty of Russian River richness in the form of a creamy texture and generous apple, pear, and tropical fruit.  Wine Spectator under-rates this a bit, but is correct on one thing – as fine as it is today, it will be even more delicious a few months from now!

“Bold, rich and spicy, with a juicy core of melon, fig, green apple and citrus flavors, shaded by light spicy oak. Young and edgy, this can stand a little cellar time.” Wine Spectator 89 points

Le Chai Duchet Vire Clesse 2015 Product #32888 (In Stock)
Le Chai Duchet Vire Clesse 2015 Le Chai Duchet Vire Clesse 2015

In just the 3rd vintage made and bottled by young Alexis Duchet, this wine already shows the very high quality of the family’s organically farmed vineyards and the character of the chalky limestone soils of the Macon’s Vire-Clesse AOC.  Alexis pulls fruit for his AOC Vire-Clesse from four sites near the village of Vire, all planted to Chardonnay vines now 60 years old or older.  Winemaking is dead simple:  gentle pressing, native yeasts, fermentation in stainless steel and then up to 12 months aging in concrete tanks.

There’s nothing simple about the wine, though.  In the warm, ripe, 2015 harvest, this shows a bit more breadth and generosity than the typical Vire-Clesse, with lovely scents and flavors of stone fruit – peach, apricot, nectarine – over chalky stone and topped with a captivating hint of fruit blossoms.  The texture is rich and round on the palate but lacks nothing in energy, minerality, and drive.  Delicious to drink on its own, for sure, but try it with shellfish, roast chicken or anything with a handful of mushrooms for a real treat!

A really charming and delicious Chardonnay from just outside Charlottesville, this is all estate grown fruit aged in tank and a mix of French, American, and Hungarian oak. Dom Michelot Bourgogne Blanc 2015 Product #32584 (In Stock)
Dom Michelot Bourgogne Blanc 2015 Dom Michelot Bourgogne Blanc 2015

Jean-François Mestre and his son, Nicolas, make their Bourgogne Blanc with all the care of a fine Meursault - which it nearly is! The grapes grow in a half-dozen small plots within the commune of Meursault tucked between the village and the RN 74 road running north to Beaune and south to Puligny-Montrachet. Just as in their 1er Cru Meursault vineyards, farming is organic (in conversion to biodynamic), with a mixture of grassy cover crops (to force the vines to compete for moisture and nutrients) and plowed rows (putting that cover crop back into the soil). Harvest is by hand, sorting careful, and pressing light into French oak (all used).

The wine is a marvel, somehow combining the richness of vintage 2015 with sizzling, snappy, almost Chablis-like zest and energy. A bit tight on the nose, with subtle aromas of lemon, apricot, and green pineapple fruit with accents of oyster shell and mint. On the palate, you'll feel the vintage's characteristic richness but taste taut zesty, Meursault flavors of lemon curd, hazelnut, sea shell, spice and mint. Finishes pure, firm, and long with lemon, mint and toasted nut flavors lingering nicely. A magnificent seafood wine now and poised to improve and gain richness over the next few years.

Jean Paul Thibert Pouilly Fuisse 2016 Product #32238 (In Stock)
Jean Paul Thibert Pouilly Fuisse 2016 Jean Paul Thibert Pouilly Fuisse 2016

Jean Paul Thibert's Jean Paul Thibert Macon Fuisse has been a store favorite for a few years now - but for the second vintage in a row his Pouilly Fuisse completely blows the doors off.   Our first thought on tasting this:  There's a lot of $40 Chassagne-Montrachet that's not nearly this good.

The wine greets you with gorgeous aromas of ripe orchard fruits - apple, peach, pear - with accents of lemon, hazelnut, fresh butter and white flowers.  Then this beauty delivers an absolutely classic white Burgundy palate of grilled pineapple, peach, pear, and lemon fruit with hazelnut, creme fraiche, and hints of salted caramel coming up as the wine warms.  The oak is well-integrated, the texture is rich and creamy and mouth-coating and the finish long and fresh, leaving hazelnut, mint, and tangerine flavors lingering. Real white Burgundy quality and satisfaction here at the price under most mid-range California Chardonnays (and, if you like Cali Chard, you’ll want to try this!)  “Burgundy” and “Bargain” don’t show up in the same sentence, or glass, often.  Don’t miss this one!
