Monte Degli Angeli Pinot Noir Monferrato 2015 Product #30859 (In Stock)
Monte Degli Angeli Pinot Noir Monferrato 2015 Monte Degli Angeli Pinot Noir Monferrato 2015

You've got to be willing to think a bit outside the box to find real, honest, Pinot Noir selling for less than $10 these days.  Here we head to Italy's Piemonte region - more famous for Barolo and Barbaresco - to a small family-owned estate run by Brothers Antonio and Paolo Sperone.  The climate here is closer to Burgundy than you'd expect, and it lets the Sperones harvest ripe, juicy, Pinot Noir fruit and then give it 6 months in barrel to soften and gain complexity.  Black cherry and strawberry fruit hold center stage here with accents of smoke and fresh earth.  Juicy in the middle and supported by light, fine, tannin, this is a steal in value Pinot Noir that tastes like...well, Pinot Noir!

Gently sparkling with fine fruit: that's the Hillinger Secco, the winery's light pink creation of 100% Pinot Noir grapes. This is easily the best (and most dry) release yet. Pretty in the glass and loaded with aromas and flavors of tangy strawberry, cranberry and cherry fruit.  Juicy and refreshingly dry on the tangy finish, this would be a great brunch or warm afternoon drink!

Heron Pinot Noir California 2015 Product #31720 (In Stock)
Heron Pinot Noir California 2015 Heron Pinot Noir California 2015

Here's a delicious party Pinot Noir that well out-performs the modest price.  Ripe Pinot fruit from Paso Robles, Monterey and the Russian River Valley gets a cool fermentation and then aging in 1 and 2 year-old French oak.  That brings out a lovely richness and very RRV-like candied cherry fruit with accents of cola, spice and pepper.  Nice and round on the palate, there's enough structure here for this to shine with salmon and poultry.

This has been one of Robert Parker's favorite "value" Pinot Noirs over the past few years; as he said of the 2013, "An authentic tasting Pinot Noir that sells for a song...Aromas of sweet red and black cherry fruit intermixed with clove and baking spices are offered in a medium-bodied, earthy, soft, silky style." Another solid release in the small 2016 vintage and still a great deal. Fun stuff.

Another classic release for this pioneer of Oregon's Chehalem mountains. A bit richer and broader than in some releases - 2013 was warm before the late rains - with a pretty note of smoky oak.

"Fresh and expressive, light-footed and generous, with cherry, plum and apricot flavors, coming together smoothly on the open-textured finish."Wine Spectator 90 points

Anton Bauer Pinot Noir Wagram 2015 Product #31942 (In Stock)

The last vintage of Tony Bauer's Wagram region Pinot Noir pulled down a 93 point rating from Wine Enthusiast. This 2015 is better - WAAAY better.  Lush and rich on the nose and palate with deep black cherry and crushed raspberry fruit framed by smoky earth and sweet spice, this stays pure and vibrant right on through the long, complex, finish. Probably the finest Pinot Noir value in the store...Ever.

Frecciarossa Pinot Nero Sillery (White Pinot Noir) 2015 Product #31202 (In Stock)
Frecciarossa Pinot Nero Sillery (White Pinot Noir) 2015 Frecciarossa Pinot Nero Sillery (White Pinot Noir) 2015

Sure, we admit it - this caught our attention because it's a rare white wine made from black-skinned Pinot Noir and "Pinot Nero Bianco" is fun to say.  And because it's from Oltrepo Pavese, a stunning slice of Lombardy south of Milan famous for rich wines in Roman times and known as Italy's top Pinot Noir region today.

It landed on our shelves because it's drop dead gorgeous!  Aromas and flavors of white peach, crushed strawberry, Rainer cherry and fresh herb are inviting and complex, and the rich, polished, texture and long finish are deeply satisfying.  A great wine for rich seafood dishes (think scallop risotto) or sophisticated sipping.  A bit of a rarity that may be gone too soon - grab it now while you can.

Want to taste why folks are even more excited about Oregon's 2015 vintage than they were about 2014?  You'll find rich aromas of juicy red raspberry, baked strawberry, and baking spice that really pop from the glass.  Light but nicely creamy on the palate, where the fruit turns more tangy with tart raspberry, pie cherry and cranberry flavors accented by notes of spice, earth, and white pepper.  Fun to drink right now, with good supporting tannin and acidity that won't get in the way of casual sipping.  And, a great value!

Fossil Point Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2015 Product #31728 (In Stock)
Fossil Point Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2015 Fossil Point Pinot Noir Edna Valley 2015

Fossil Point is named for the rugged headland in San Luis Obispo County which features sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Central Coast. These cool coastal vineyards are perfect for Pinot Noir, allowing plenty of ripeness while retaining freshness and fine acidity.

The 2015 edition is simply superb, about as fine a California Pinot Noir value as we've seen in years.  Loads of sweet, ripe, red and black fruit on the nose and palate with a kick of smoke and sweet spice from 14 months in French oak.  A blood orange note comes out with air, lending freshness to match the classic California richness before the sweet spice and dark fruit come up on the long, pure, finish.  Really, really, good stuff.

Ch De Vaux Les Hautes-Bassieres Pinot Noir Moselle 2014 Product #31064 (In Stock)
Ch De Vaux Les Hautes-Bassieres Pinot Noir Moselle 2014 Ch De Vaux Les Hautes-Bassieres Pinot Noir Moselle 2014

Moselle, along the Mosel River before it flows into Germany, was once a rival to Champagne.  The Franco-Prussian war, phylloxera, and WWI and II took a heavy toll, and today this region along the border with Luxembourg is pretty obscure. But, Norbert and Marie-Geneviève Molozay recognized the region's potential (especially in an era of warming climate), and launched Ch de Vaux in 1996 to prove it.

Pour a glass of this and you’ll immediately notice a good deal more color than you’d expect from such a cool climate.  The nose delivers on the promise of richness and depth with complex aromas of raspberry, dark cherry, wood smoke, and forest underbrush flowing out of the glass.  On the palate, it does just what a great holiday red should.  There’s more than enough ripe fruit to survive the onslaught of big dinner flavors with smoky/savory accents that will highlight stuffing and autumn vegetable sides.  The tang of fresh cranberry on the finish evokes the dish of Aunt Martha’s sauce and, more importantly, refreshes your palate and gets you ready for the next forkful.  Delicious, if obscure, and excellent value!

Porch Pounder Pinot Noir Red Blend 4pk 12oz Cans Product #32024 (In Stock)
Porch Pounder Pinot Noir Red Blend 4pk 12oz Cans Porch Pounder Pinot Noir Red Blend 4pk 12oz Cans

Ok, so wine in 12oz cans (about half a bottle) is a pretty cool idea and will make it far easier for you to enjoy vino when you're out and about this Spring and Summer.  But that's just an add on benefit here - this is a KILLER red blend that will appeal to everyone from Merlot to Belle Glos/ Meomi Pinot Noir fans.  We don't know the precise blend, but it starts with the kind of ultra-rich, deeply fruited, Pinot Noir the Wagner family has made famous.  Other grapes - perhaps Cab and Syrah? - add density and a dark, spicy, complexity.  A touch of oak adds a vanilla note and gives this a velvety smooth texture.  Fruit-filled and flashy, for sure, but dry and clean on the spicy finish.  If you like the can idea, buy this. If you don't, then buy it anyway and just use a glass.  It's that good.

Dom Deliance Givry 1er Cru Les Combes 2015 Product #32010 (In Stock)

From an estate established in 1935 that made first red and white still wines, then sparkling Cremant, and now - with the new generation - is moving back to still wine production.  And very good still wine it is, especially in the brilliant 2015 vintage.

For less than a decent Bourgogne Rouge, here you're able to enjoy true 1er Cru quality from a stony vineyard in Givry, one of the five villages of the Côte Chalonnaise. In this ripe vintage, the wine serves up complex aromas of Bing cherry, ripe raspberry, wet earth, licorice and wood fire.  The texture is round and pure with generous dark cherry/berry fruit and a pretty accent of baking spice.  Rich, but still nicely precise, it's drinking well now and will shine through 2022 and beyond.  Stellar value.

Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014 Product #32093 (In Stock)
Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2014

If you want to drink a terrific Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from the man Wine Spectator called “A Master of Pinot Noir in Oregon” at less than half the price of his single vineyard wines…well, this is going to make you very happy indeed.  Made from younger vines and more forward (i.e., less tannic) barrels from 10 of Ken’s 13 single-vineyard wines, the 2014 WV Pinot has loads of pretty fruit, a light and lithe feel, and just enough structure to pair with food and improve for a year or two – but not enough to get in the way of weeknight solo sipping now.  Excellent value.

"Ken Wright produces as many as a dozen or more single-vineyard Pinots in any given vintage. This wine is blended from many of those same sites, whose vines were often planted back in the 1980s. It's light and elegant, yet powerfully flavorful, with strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit pushing deep into the palate. It's clean and fresh, with crisp defining acidity, perfect balance, refined tannins and a long finish."Wine Enthusiast 91 points

Ampelos Cellars Pinot Noir Sta Rita Hills 2015 Product #32027 (In Stock)
Ampelos Cellars Pinot Noir Sta Rita Hills 2015 Ampelos Cellars Pinot Noir Sta Rita Hills 2015

These guys are best known as a vineyard source for other top Sta. Rita Hills winemakers (e.g. Greg Brewer), but they make a tiny amount of wine on their own as well.  This is a terrific example with more structure and focus than you often find in such ripe, Sta. Rita Hills Pinot.  Fresh Pinot aromas of red berries, wildflowers, and spice open the show and lead to a focused mouthful of cherry, redcurrant, and raspberry fruit with accents of warm spice, earth, and cola.  Gets a little more smoky with air, but stays focused and fresh through the supple, sweetly fruited, finish.

Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2015 Product #31758 (In Stock)
Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2015 Patricia Green Pinot Noir Reserve 2015

This has been one of the best values in Willamette Valley Pinot Noir for years, but in 2015 it really soars.  This year 75% of the barrels came from sedimentary soils in Ribbon Ridge and Chehalem Mountain AVAs, 15% from Freedom Hill and 15% from volcanic soils in the Dundee Hills.  It’s genuinely lush and a bit showy now with opulent aromas and flavors of crushed black raspberry, dark cherries, exotic flowers, smoke and damp earth.  Mouthfilling and showing a glyceryl richness, but with vivid acids, fine tannins, and no excess of weight.  As Jim and Patty say, “There are seriously great bones here and this wine will stand up to many, many much higher priced bottlings… In short, this wine is a smoking deal!!

"Deep red. Expansive red berry and floral pastille scents and flavors show impressive energy and pick up a hint of smokiness as the wine opens up. Smooth and fleshy but lively as well; a late jolt of white pepper adds spicy bite. Generous but vibrant in character, finishing very long and sweet, with gentle tannins lending shape and subtle grip. This wine delivers exceptional bang for the buck."  Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

"Brilliant ruby-red. Highly fragrant, spice-accented aromas of red and dark berry preserves and floral pastilles; a hint of vanilla emerges with air. Expansive raspberry and cherry-cola flavors are energized and lifted by juicy acidity and a late jolt of white pepper.
