Palacio de Bornos Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Product #30939 (In Stock)
Palacio de Bornos Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Palacio de Bornos Sauvignon Blanc 2015

We've loved Palacio de Bornos Verdejo for years, but just wait until you try their zesty Sauvignon Blanc!  Like the Verdejo, this is from the hot, arid, vineyards of Spain's Rueda where plenty of sunshine gives great ripeness and cool, crisp, nights (and very careful winemaking) translate into...well, a cool, crisp, white!  This juicy value pumps out loads of citrus and green grape fruit with an enlivening dash of herbal Meyer lemon.  Delicious and fun to drink.

"Dried lemon, pear skin, melon and quinine on the mineral-accented nose and in the mouth. Dry, nervy and sharply focused, picking up an exotic pineapple nuance as the wine opens up. Finishes taut and spicy, showing good energy and a touch of succulent herbs."  Vinous (Raynolds) 89 points

Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2015 Product #31343 (In Stock)
Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2015 Ch La Roche St. Jean Blanc 2015

The 2015 edition of this customer and staff favorite Sauvignon Blanc starts with aromas of just-squeezed lemon and fresh cut grass. On the palate, there’s a nice, juicy hit of riper Meyer lemon that comes in, and the whole thing finishes mouthwateringly clean. While many white Bordeaux are blended with Semillon and Muscadelle to add waxy weight or fruitiness, Ch La Roche St Jean is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. There’s no oak to hide all that tangy fruit, and it’s a very reasonable 13.0% alcohol. If you’ve shied away from New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc because of its over-the-top grapefruitiness or overwhelming, pungent passionfruit flavors, this is the perfect SB for you.

Dom Roc De Chateauvieux Touraine 2015 Dom Roc De Chateauvieux Touraine 2015

We aren't finding much not to love about the great 2015 vintage across Europe, but we especially appreciate how the warm season adds a bit of plumpness to wines like this.  It's 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley's Tourainne growing area, one that's famous for leaving a bit of bell pepper and some hard edges to its bargain Sauvignon.  Not here!  Round and fully ripe, this is bursting with green melon and sweet grapefruit aromas and flavors and just right dashes of fresh herb and lemony acids.  A great solo sipper and fun with food and a great bargain, too!

Sea Pearl Sauvignon Blanc 2016 Sea Pearl Sauvignon Blanc 2016

The New Zealand abalone pictured on the label are complexly, even wildly, colored and produce some of the world's most treasured pearls.  The name here nods to that and introduces an honest, fresh, Sauvignon Blanc with plenty of melon, fig, citrus and grassy herb aromas and flavors.  Medium bodied and very fresh with pretty accents of peach and melon on the vibrant, lightly herbal, finish.  Fine value.

A bit of barrel fermented wine gives this extra richness of texture to go with the classic, fresh, SB fruit.

"Bright light yellow. Ripe aromas of mirabelle and ginger, plus hints of tropical fruits. Spicy, broad and rather dry on the palate, offering melon and tropical fruit hints. This nicely concentrated wine is kept fresh by unabsorbed CO2 and good spicy lift."  Vinous (Tanzer) 89 points

Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2015 Product #30816 (In Stock)
Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2015 Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Petit Bourgeois 2015

Basically a “baby Sancerre”, this exciting young Sauvignon Blanc is grown on the same chalky slate soils you’ll find across Sancerre from 10-40 year-old vines, fermented in stainless steel and allowed to rest 3 months on the fine lees.  The vineyard is located just outside the legal boundary of Sancerre, but the flavors make you feel right in the middle!

Generous, fresh, aromas of fresh flowers, just cut grass, white grapefruit, and a hint of wet stones burst from the glass.  Then you’ll find a tad more richness and zest to the crisp citrus and green apple fruit, tangy gooseberry, and fresh grass.  As the refreshing acidity wells up to make your mouth water, a bit of Sancerre’s trademark “gun flint” character shows underneath the juicy bright fruit.  There’s a wonderful rich/brisk, sweet/sour contrast in this wine that will delight and fascinate with every sip.  Served cold, it’s thirst quenching and refreshing.  Let it warm up a touch and it’s layered, complex, and a fantastic match for seafood, fresh vegetables, and – of course – goat cheese.

Another great vintage for this benchmark New Zealand winery founded by Cloudy Bay alums. Not yet reviewed, but sure to join the 91-93 point hit parade of vintages 2010-2015!  As always, there's a lot of stone fruit and spice flavor here with more body than the typical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Coats your palate with lush fruit and an almost salty freshness with notes of citrus, peach, ginger and herb weaving in and out and lingering on the long finish.

St Bris's vineyards lie just outside of Chablis on white chalk Kimmeridgian soils and are the only part of Burgundy where Sauvignon Blanc, rather than Chardonnay, rules.  Classic SB aromas and flavors of white grapefruit, lemon pulp, and stone fruit with savory accents of crushed herb and slate get an extra boost of density and richness from the warm 2015 vintage and 60 year-old vines.  Think a richer, rounder, Sancerre and you'll have the right idea.

Fleuriet Renaissance Sancerre La Magie Des Caillottes 2015 Product #31961 (In Stock)
Fleuriet Renaissance Sancerre La Magie Des Caillottes 2015 Fleuriet Renaissance Sancerre La Magie Des Caillottes 2015

From vines up to 40 years-old growing on Sancerre’s famous Kimmeridgian soils, the chalky marls responsible for the best wines of Chablis and Champagne, too.  Fermented and aged 50% in tank and 50% in brand new French oak barrels, allowing the oak to round off Sauvignon’s sometimes harsh edges and time on the fine lees to add body and creamy richness.  The oak shows in the wine’s texture – round, smooth, voluptuous – but not so much in the aromas and flavors.  It’s bold and rich with very ripe peach, white citrus, and an exotic touch of tangerine.  There’s plenty of body in this warm vintage, but also a sizzlingly sharp finish where lemon citrus and mineral notes make your mouth water and keep the flavors fresh and long.  A fine wine to just drink for refreshment on a warm day and even better with cilantro-laced Vietnamese fish dishes.

Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2015 Product #30714 (In Stock)
Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2015 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2015

The newest release of one of New Zealands most decorated Sauvignon Blancs delivers again with this rich, ripe, 2015.  Big aromas of ripe apple, pear and peach with a touch of pink grapefruit lead to a crisp, dry, palate loaded with citrus and orchard fruits.  Silky-textured and mouthfilling, it's a Marlborough Sauvignon for sipping and a wide range of foods. Kevin Judd's years of running Cloudy Bay shine through here!

"Very ripe stone fruit and pineapple aromas are lifted by flowers, dusty brown spices and anise. Plush, round and slightly sweet, but with nicely integrated acidity giving shape to the peach, grapefruit, white pepper and nutmeg flavors. Wonderfully generous, fine-grained wine with a light touch and superb rising length. The wine's tactile finishing notes of dusty stone and ginger leave the salivary glands humming. In a distinctly ripe style but a beauty."  Vinous (Tanzer) 91 points
