Cellars Unio Perlat Syrah 2014 Product #32525 (In Stock)
Cellars Unio Perlat Syrah 2014 Cellars Unio Perlat Syrah 2014

Not the fanciest of wines, but a good example of what Syrah does on the cracked slate hills of Spain's Montsant region.  Normally used to blend with Garnacha and Carignan, here it shines on its own with fine ripness and fruit tempered by 12 months in neutral oak.

"Vivid ruby. Aromas of dried cherry, cassis and licorice, plus a hint of smokiness in the background. Gently sweet black and blue fruit flavors are enlivened by a peppery element that builds as the wine opens up. Closes on a bitter note, with dusty tannins adding grip and a slightly stern edge."  Vinous (Raynolds) 87 points

Mitolo Jester Shiraz Mclaren Vale 2015 Product #33017 (In Stock)

A bold, rich, and nicely chewy Shiraz that pairs dark black fruit with accents of chocolate, leather, spice and more.  A dead ringer for the Suckling 93 point 2015:  "Bright and vivid with blueberry, blackberry and licorice. Hints of flowers. Full body, tight and chewy. Linear and racy. This shows strength and structure."  Better with a decant now (to blow off some gas) or in 2019.

Best's Great Western Shiraz Bin No. 1 2015 Best's Great Western Shiraz Bin No. 1 2015

This is just a stunner, marrying the bold fruit and peppery spice you love in Aussie Shiraz with a minerally, earthy, sophistication normally not seen outside the Northern Rhone.  On Victoria's silt and clay soils, Best's Great Western has crafted a winner here.  100% Shiraz and just 14.0% abv.

"A wealth of fragrant raspberries, red plums and peppery, cool-climate shiraz characters sit for all to behold on the nose, and there's a handy earthy nuance, too. The palate's bathed in cool-climate blackberry and plum flavors as well as plenty of licorice and sarsaparilla. What great depth and the peppery finish and shimmery, glossy tannins hold long and flawless. Drink now through to 2024."  James Suckling 96 points

Dom Fayolle Crozes Hermitage La Grande Seguine 2015 Product #33118 (In Stock)
Dom Fayolle Crozes Hermitage La Grande Seguine 2015 Dom Fayolle Crozes Hermitage La Grande Seguine 2015

No question: 2015 was a GREAT vintage for Syrah in France's Northern Rhone. And that means that "humble" appellations like Croze-Hermitage really shine.  This is 100% whole-cluster Syrah from granite soils aged in used French oak for 12+ months. Classic Syrah aromas of dark fruit, graphite and violets flow into a vibrant, medium-weight, palate of crushed plum and berry, roasted meat, dark earth and granite.  Finishes firm and lightly chewy - perfect for lamb!

Dom Des Pierres Seches St Joseph 2014 Product #30928 (In Stock)
Dom Des Pierres Seches St Joseph 2014 Dom Des Pierres Seches St Joseph 2014

Sylvain Gauthier is a young winemaker to watch in the Northern Rhone.  Born in Lorraine, trained in Burgundy, and since 2007, making his own wines from Syrah in and around the Northern Rhone.  As far as we can tell, Olivier Daubresse is the first to import Sylvain's wines to the US, but the Wine Advocate managed to track down a bottle of the 2013 St Joseph last year and awarded it a very nice 90 point rating.

From the cooler 2014 vintage, this is a ripe but elegant take on St Joseph Syrah, with a nice touch of barrel for complexity and richness.  Ripe black berry and plum scents gain complexity from notes of roasted meat, smoked stone, and spicy oak.  Plenty of depth and richness here, but no excess weight and outstanding freshness through the long, mouthwatering, lip smacking, finish.  Enjoy right now with grilled lamb and keep some to continue to enjoy for another 4-8 years as it gains complexity and earthy depth.

Union Sacre Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Le Clandestin 2015 Union Sacre Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon Le Clandestin 2015

Ramey Syrah Sonoma Coast 2014 Product #31237 (In Stock)
Ramey Syrah Sonoma Coast 2014 Ramey Syrah Sonoma Coast 2014

As Robert Parker says, "David Ramey has always done a top-notch job with Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Syrah, although he rarely gets enough credit for the latter."

"The 2014 Syrah (Sonoma Coast) is dense, powerful and bursting at the seams with explosive energy. Dried flowers, tobacco, mint, dried cherries, smoke and licorice are all given an extra kick of intensity from the early-ripening vintage."  Vinous (Galloni) 89-91 points

"Co-fermented with 3% Viognier, the 2014 Syrah Sonoma Coast has an intense nose of crushed black cherries and black berries with floral hints of roses and potpourri, plus touches of wild thyme and garrigue. Medium-bodied, it delivers a lot of fruit and earthy flavors with rounded tannins and great length."Wine Advocate 90 points

"Well-structured and appealingly savory, with blueberry and smoky cured meat aromas and focused flavors of dark plum, underbrush and pepper."Wine Spectator 90 points

Ledge James Berry Vynd Syrah 2014 Product #32422 (In Stock)
Ledge James Berry Vynd Syrah 2014 Ledge James Berry Vynd Syrah 2014

Amazing elegance and purity in a wine with lovely California fruit and lots of Cote Rotie style.

"An explosively perfumed, complex bouquet displays intense boysenberry, cherry liqueur, licorice, allspice and sandalwood scents, while a smoky mineral topnote gains strength with air. Completely stains the palate with sweet black and blue fruit, spicecake and candied lavender flavors that show impressive litheness for their heft. Smooth, slow-building tannins shape the finish, which hangs on with outstanding, floral-driven persistence."  Vinous (Raynolds) 94 points

"An upcoming estate I've been raving about for a few years now, Ledge is run by Mark Adams and he pulls fruit from his Estate Adams Ranch vineyard, as well as a number of other notable sites, including James Berry, and recently, G2 vineyard. Mark likes plenty of whole cluster, and isn't afraid of a touch of funk either. His wines always show lots of character and are highly recommended. Tasted at my office in Colorado and followed for multiple days. As from barrel, it's a dead ringer for a classic Cote Rotie and offers notes of black raspberries, cassis, olives, hints of bacon fat, liquid violets and pepper. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, elegant and silky, it has beautiful purity of fruit, fine tannin and a great finish, all suggesting it will evolve nicely for 10-12 years."Wine Advocate 95 points

Guigal Cote Rotie Brune Et Blonde 2013 Product #33033 (In Stock)

"Powerful dark fruit, violet pastille, olive and candied licorice aromas are lifted and sharpened by peppery spice and smoky mineral notes. Coats the palate with nicely concentrated, smoke-tinged boysenberry, cherry liqueur and spicecake flavors that become livelier with air. Shows impressive clarity and seamless texture and finishes very long and sappy; chewy tannins build slowly and fold into the sweet dark fruit."  Vinous (Raynolds) 93 points

"Especially for the vintage, this is chock-full of lightly mulled plum, black currant and raspberry fruit laced liberally with singed alder and juniper threads. Lots of smoldering tobacco and dark tea notes through the finish, with a sanguine element as well. Best from 2019 through 2028."Wine Spectator 93 points

Shafer Syrah Relentless 2014 Product #32659 (In Stock)
Shafer Syrah Relentless 2014 Shafer Syrah Relentless 2014

"Shafer's 2014 Relentless is fabulous. The most expressive and varietally expressive of the three vintages of Relentless I tasted. In 2014, Relentless has 11% Petite Sirah, which, along with the personality of the year, kicks up the aromatics and flavors in a meaningful way. Lavender, mint, violets and crème de cassis notes are laced into the super-expressive finish. The 2014 is shaping up to be a real gem."  Vinous (Galloni) 92-95 points

"This is very fresh and balanced with a dense and silky texture plus lots of violet, berry and hints of sandalwood. It’s full and very silky. Long and intense. Hints of smoky, spicy, wonderful fruit. Lots of tannin but shows an intensity and power. Needs time to soften, but beautiful. 89% syrah and 11% petite sirah."  James Suckling 95 points

Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau D'ampuis 2011 Product #32086 (In Stock)
Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau D'ampuis 2011 Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau D'ampuis 2011

"Vivid ruby. Spicy red fruits, incense, violet and botanical herbs on the flamboyantly perfumed nose. Vibrant, mineral-tinged black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show impressive depth and vivacity and a seamless texture. Juicy, precise and appealingly sweet on the youthfully tannic, incisive finish, with the berry and floral notes echoing. The blend of fruit intensity and tension here is quite suave."  Vinous (Galloni) 93 points

"The 2011 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis has closed down slightly since last year, yet still offers a terrific perfume of cured meats, vanilla bean, sweet black currants and graphite to go with medium to full-bodied, ripe, sexy style on the palate. I doubt it will truly close down and would happily enjoy bottles anytime over the coming 15 or more years."Wine Advocate 93 points

"Very focused, with a lovely beam of lightly steeped red currant, bitter cherry and plum fruit flavors that glides atop singed cedar, black tea and dried star anise notes. The long finish is very fine-grained. A gorgeous wine. Best from 2016 through 2027. 400 cases imported." Wine Spectator 94 points
