Beran Zinfandel California 2014 Product #32628 (In Stock)
Beran Zinfandel California 2014 Beran Zinfandel California 2014

Second release of this powerhouse from Joe Wagner of Belle Glos fame.  Given 30 days of skin contact (for maximum flavor/texture extraction) and 12 months in barrel (to round off the edges), it's an unusually plush zin that stays just this side of "over the top."  Classic Zinny aromas and flavors of crushed red berry, cherry pie, and plenty of oaky spice and vanilla with a smooth as silk finish.

Bedrock Wine Co Old Vine Zinfandel 2015 Product #32567 (In Stock)
Bedrock Wine Co Old Vine Zinfandel 2015 Bedrock Wine Co Old Vine Zinfandel 2015

An utterly delicious wine to rekindle your love of Zin; mainly from 3 vineyards planted in 1888. 90% Zinfandel plus Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grenache, Carignan, Mataro and others.

"The reds start with the 2015 Zinfandel Old Vine, which comes from many different old-vine vineyards largely based around three farms in Sonoma planted in 1888, 1896 and 1905. In addition, there is a kitchen-sink blend of other old-vine sites as well. Peterson guesses that the average age of the material in the blend is at least 80 years. The bend is 90% Zinfandel and the rest Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Grenache, Carignan, Mataro and a few other eccentric black varieties. This delicious wine shows terrific fruit, loads of steak tartare, ground pepper, black raspberry and blackberry fruits, licorice, creosote and an Amarone-like character. It is dense, full-bodied, vibrant and energized. Drink it over the next 5-6 years if you can wait that long."Wine Advocate 90 points

"Rich and supple, this is an explosion of pure, decadent fruit. Floral huckleberry and Chinese five-spice powder aromas open to layered blackberry, dark chocolate and licorice flavors that linger. Drink now through 2026."Wine Spectator 93 points

Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Canyon 2014 Product #32011 (In Stock)
Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Canyon 2014 Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Canyon 2014

I can't recall a better release of Green & Red's "entry level" Chiles Canyon Vyd red in years.  From old vines growing at 1,000-1,700 feet elevation to the east of Napa, there's more than enough ripeness and fleshy fruit here to delight any Zin fan.  Dark black cherry and super-ripe raspberry fruit hold center stage with a bold does of oak spice and lots of zesty structure at the end.  Big, but poised and fun - even refreshing! - to drink now.

Carlisle Zinfandel Bedrock Vyd 2014 Product #31611 (In Stock)
Carlisle Zinfandel Bedrock Vyd 2014 Carlisle Zinfandel Bedrock Vyd 2014

There’s just a little bit of American history in the ground at Bedrock. The site was first planted in 1854 by the gentlemen who would come to be known as Generals William “Tecumseh” Sherman and “Fightin’ Joe” Hooker.  After phylloxera it was replanted in 1888 by Senator George Hearst—a mining magnet, an early father of California, and the father of publisher William Randolph Hearst.

Mike Officer farms two plots of this large site.  About 90% is 1888 Zinfandel with the rest "mixed blacks" (Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet and others) plus a dollop of fortifying Mourvedre, also planted in 1888. The Mourvedre gives depth and a structure that will need a little time to fully unwind.  Mike recommends drinking from 2018-2028 and that seems right to us.

“The 2014 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard emerges from one of the warmer sites Carlisle works with. All of that intensity comes through in a big, dramatic wine endowed with serious presence, intensity and tannic heft. Black cherries, menthol, tar, licorice and smoke hit the palate in a big wine that shows the virile side of Zinfandel. The Bedrock is not especially polished, subtle or refined, but it sure is distinctive.”  Vinous (Galloni) 92-94 points

"Plump and rich flavors wrap around a big but refined structure, with briary wild berry aromas and zesty notes of smoky anise, cracked pepper and stony mineral that linger toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2028."Wine Spectator 94 points

Crane Assembly El Coco Proprietary Red 2014 Product #31906 (In Stock)
Crane Assembly El Coco Proprietary Red 2014 Crane Assembly El Coco Proprietary Red 2014

"The third blend Dave Phinney and winemaker Kevin Fox are turning out is the El Coco Proprietary Blend Composition. The 2014 is 45% old vine Zinfandel, 41% Petite Sirah and 14% Merlot. There are 490 cases for this vintage. It is a spectacular wine, with an opaque purple color and a big, sweet kiss of pen ink, graphite, blackberry, blueberry and violets. Its supple, sweet tannin is amazing, and the wine builds incrementally to reveal terrific viscosity, fruit intensity and extraction, with a savory spiciness. This is a stunner to drink now and over the next 15+ years."Wine Advocate 95 points
