Lopez De Haro Rioja Reserva 2012 Product #32902 (In Stock)
Lopez De Haro Rioja Reserva 2012 Lopez De Haro Rioja Reserva 2012

Despite the old-sounding name, this relatively new estate has excelled at delivering traditionally-styled Rioja at bargain basement prices. This is 90% Tempranillo, 5% Granacha and 5% Graciano aged 20 months in mostly used French and American oak casks. You'll see the time in wood by the pale rim and feel it in the smooth, rounded, mouthfeel.  Dark black fruit aromas and flavors are complicated by notes of sweet spice, balsamic, and a hint of vanilla.  Finishes smooth and earthy with fine complexity.

Laderas De Cabama Rioja 2012 Product #32391 (In Stock)
Laderas De Cabama Rioja 2012 Laderas De Cabama Rioja 2012

Here's a super pleasing, nicely rich, vibrant and fun Tempranillo with plenty of Rioja smoke and spice to go with ripe blackberry and red berry fruit and smooth, smoky, finish.  Seriously fun with or without food.

"The 2012 Laderas de Cabama is a fresh Tempranillo from youngish vineyards from an extremely dry vintage. It fermented in cement tanks with selected yeasts and matured in French barriques for one year. It shows contained ripeness with a nice mixture of red and black fruit with some spices. The palate is fresher than I expected, with good acidity and very fine tannins. Very drinkable."Wine Advocate 90 points

Petit Guiraud Sauternes 2012 (375ml) Petit Guiraud Sauternes 2012 (375ml)

The second wine from Ch Guiraud, this plays on the contrast between botrytis-tinged sweetness and clean Sauvignon Blanc fruit and acids. Rock solid Sauternes aromas and flavors of apricot, toasted almond, white peach, and honey, a creamy texture, and refreshing ginger and lemon notes on the finish.  For lighter desserts or even with savory caper/lemon sauce!

Flechas De Los Andes Gran Malbec 2012 Product #33170 (In Stock)

"Dark, aromatic, slightly high-toned scents of black cherry, licorice, tobacco leaf, violet, minerals and bitter chocolate. Densely packed and smooth but very tightly wound, still showing a touch of reduction to its powerful ripe flavors of blackberry, herbs and menthol. The middle palate is slightly leavened by a savory element. This Malbec has the stuffing, ripeness and structure to reward more aging but it's passing through a rather clenched phase today, even if the serious tannins are essentially pliant. Best at the moment on the dark, rising, subtly perfumed back end. Plenty of potential here."  Vinous (Tanzer) 91+ points

Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2012 Product #32807 (In Stock)
Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2012 Quinta Do Noval Late Bottled Vintage 2012

Just another in a long line of delicious values from Quinta do Noval.

"The 2012 Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port is another fine Noval LBV, traditionally styled and bottled in June 2017 with a long cork. Noval is one of the region's finest and most consistent producers of traditional LBVs, wines that become more expressive and can develop with age. This is a little on the lighter side—that's the vintage, perhaps—but still respectably concentrated. It has fine, expressive fruit and the elegant styling for which Noval is known. This should drink well on release and hold well for a couple of decades (yes, traditional LBVs age well and develop)."Wine Advocate 91 points

Belle Pente Chardonnay Belle Pente Vyd 2012 Product #31772 (In Stock)
Belle Pente Chardonnay Belle Pente Vyd 2012 Belle Pente Chardonnay Belle Pente Vyd 2012

We thought Brian O'Donnell's 2010 Chardonnay was about as fine an Oregon white as we'd ever come across.  The 2012 - from perhaps the Willamette Valley's best vintage ever - is better still.  The grapes are from a 1999 planting in a small, 2 acre, plot of Belle Pente's steeply sloped Yamhill-Carleton vineyard.  Brian harvests the fruit in two passes, one early for freshness and one later for richness and flavor intensity.  Fermentation is in barrel (about 10% new), with half made of fine French oak and half from Oregon oak which Brian thinks brings out more fruit character.

The 364 cases of 2012 Chardonnay came out very well indeed. Rich aromas of pear, yellow apple and toasted hazelnut lead to a fleshy, full-bodied, palate of ripe orchard fruit and buttered nut with just a hint of tropical pineapple.  The finish is long and nutty with buttered apple flavors lingering over a light dusting of crushed stone.  Delicious stuff now - 2022 (at least)!

Dom Charbonniere Chateauneuf Du Pape 2012 Product #33045 (In Stock)

Delicious, Grenache, goodness here with earthy complexity in a CdP that's ready to go.

"Fresh red berries and pungent flowers on the perfumed nose, with a hint of white pepper adding urgency. Juicy and silky in texture, offering gently sweet raspberry and floral pastille flavors that put on weight with air. This fine-grained, focused Châteauneuf shows zesty finishing cut and silky tannins."  Vinous (Raynolds) 90 points

"The straight Châteauneuf du Pape is a classic effort that offers up notions of blackberry, black raspberry, garrigue and leather in a medium-bodied, fresh and focused package. Made from 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre, this is classic stuff to drink over the coming 7-8 years. I continue to rave about these wines from the Maret family, and both these 2012s and 2013 are worth seeking out."Wine Advocate 90 points

"Silky and open in feel, with delightful cassis and cherry fruit lined with charcoal and tobacco notes. The caressing finish has a hint of singed vanilla."Wine Spectator 90 points

A classic take on this fruit-filled, muscular, grape with plenty of dark fruit and a firm, grippy, finish.  Fantastic cookout red.

"This is from a tremendous vineyard site near the top of the appellation, situated from 1,250 to 1,800 feet. It incorporates small additions of Zinfandel and Carignane into the whole, a picture of soft beguiling violet aromas that are followed by a velvety texture and underlying grip of tannin. Rich red fruit and a taste of licorice linger on the intense finish."Wine Enthusiast 94 points

Fattoria La Lecciaia Brunello Di Montalcino 2012 Fattoria La Lecciaia Brunello Di Montalcino 2012

It's amazing that this small (15 hectare) estate can make such great wines and still stay under the radar of point-chasing collectors. The 2012 is open and sleek but lacking nothing in power and depth.

"Bright red. Delicate strawberry and minerals on the nose. Then fresh and juicy, with vibrat acidity lifting the bright red berry and floral flavors. Finishes long with zingy acid bite and a lovely floral quality."  Vinous 90 points

"A harmonious mix of cherry, earth, tar and iron flavors marks this sleek red. The fruit shines through midpalate, giving way to the earthy and minerally elements on the finish."Wine Spectator 92 points

"I loved the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape. This big, downright sexy red offers loads of kirsch, blackberries, dried flowers and hints of licorice in a full-bodied, sweetly fruit, layered style. Dom Cauvard Pommard Les Noizons 2012 Product #32009 (In Stock)
Dom Cauvard Pommard Les Noizons 2012 Dom Cauvard Pommard Les Noizons 2012

The warm 2012 vintage allowed normally firm Pommard to develop a bit more richness and suppleness than usual - which is what you'll find here.  This is gorgeous, with dark cherry fruit and sweet spice flowing over dusty (but sweetly ripe) Pommard tannins.  You'll love how open and luscious this is today but it will just get better over the next 5-8 years.  A fine value in classy, classic, red Burgundy.

Amalie Robert Pinot Noir Amalie's Cuvee 2012 Product #32605 (In Stock)
Amalie Robert Pinot Noir Amalie's Cuvee 2012 Amalie Robert Pinot Noir Amalie's Cuvee 2012

Co-owner Dena Drews' barrel selection is all about aromas - and what lovely aromas they are!  A whole basket of ripe and vibrant cherries with hints of rose petal and blackberry and just a touch of cinnamon and clove.  On the palate there's the amplitude and richness of the vintage but also a remarkable vibrancy and lift.  Sweet red and black cherry, crushed raspberry, a bit of cola and spice flavors dart around your palate with clove-studded orange peel accents.  The finish is firm, but silky smooth, with tangy fruit making your mouth water and get ready for duck, salmon or anything else you'd care to through at it.

"Brilliant red. A complex, seductively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe black raspberry, cherry cola, Asian spices and smoky minerals. Juicy and precise, showing strong lift and cut to the sweet red and dark berry and lavender pastille flavors. The spice and mineral notes add bite to a very long, floral-tinged finish that's shaped and given grip by silky, harmonious tannins. This is a pretty graceful rendition of the vintage, which is populated mostly by deeper, brawnier Pinots."  Vinous (Raynolds) 92 points

Amalie Robert Pinot Noir Estate 2012 Product #32606 (In Stock)
Amalie Robert Pinot Noir Estate 2012 Amalie Robert Pinot Noir Estate 2012

As usual, Ernie's selection shows the influence of whole-cluster fermentation right on the nose, with plenty of spice to the red raspberry and cherry fruit.  And, on the palate, this is less about fruit and more about spice, earth, and sassafras root - not that there's any shortage of 2012's beautiful, ripe, mouthwatering fruit!  Firmer and more spicy on the finish, where the wine really grips with firm, powerful, tannins.  A wonderfully complex, spicy, Pinot that would be pretty darn amazing with lamb tagine or anything with earthy base notes and exotic spice.

"Brilliant red. A hugely perfumed bouquet evokes fresh red berries, candied rose, allspice and blood orange, plus a zesty mineral quality that builds in the glass. Graceful and precise on the palate, offering spicy red fruit and floral pastille flavors that show zero fat and excellent balance. This weightless, sharply focused Pinot finishes with wonderful finishing energy and very soft tannins."  Vinous (Raynolds) 93 points

Ch La Pointe Pomerol 2012 Product #31886 (In Stock)
Ch La Pointe Pomerol 2012 Ch La Pointe Pomerol 2012

Classic Pomerol richness here with a lovely, vibrant, finish.

"The 2012 La Pointe has fresh, wild berry, cranberry, incense and wild heather aromas that unfurl in the glass, a touch of black truffle emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is still some new oak to be absorbed, but it is well balanced with good acidity, notwithstanding what you might describe as a "solid" structure towards the finish. It is a very fine Pomerol, though my advice is to wait 4-5 years to get the most from Eric Monnoret's fast-improving Pomerol."Wine Advocate 91 points
