Bobal De Sanjuan Vinas Viejas 2012 Product #29655 (In Stock)
Bobal De Sanjuan Vinas Viejas 2012 Bobal De Sanjuan Vinas Viejas 2012

Big and rich with plenty of power and a nice floral note, too.

"This 100% Bobal (60 to 80-year-old vines), aged four months in concrete, represents a terrific buy. It possesses excellent delineation as well as lots of blueberry and sweet and sour cherry fruit intermixed with notions of chalk and strawberries. Medium-bodied and fruity with attractive texture as well as purity, it should drink well for several years."Wine Advocate 88 points

Xavier Cotes du Rhone 2012 Product #30949 (In Stock)
Xavier Cotes du Rhone 2012 Xavier Cotes du Rhone 2012

IT'S BACK!!!  Xavier Vignon consults with vine growers and winemakers at some of the Rhone’s most famous estates, and he takes just a bit of his fee in the form of grapes to make outstanding wines like this one.  Grenache from 80+ year-old vines, nicely rich Syrah, and a remarkable 25% Mourvedre – very generous for a wine at this price level – are all harvested ripe, fermented cool, and aged in concrete tank to retain 100% authentic Rhone character.

"The 2012 Côtes du Rhône is another beauty by this team. Licorice, roasted herbs, pepper and plenty of sweet fruit come together in this medium to full-bodied, layered, and textured effort. Made from 60% Grenache, and Mourvedre and Syrah that saw mostly concrete tank, it’s a smoking Côtes du Rhône (and a fabulous value) to drink over the coming 3-4 years."Wine Advocate 90 points

Mendoza Vineyards MV Malbec Gran Reserva 2012 Product #31476 (In Stock)
Mendoza Vineyards MV Malbec Gran Reserva 2012 Mendoza Vineyards MV Malbec Gran Reserva 2012

The new vintage of our best-selling Malbec ever is another winner!.  Everything about this wine is “super-premium” – the high-end oak, hand harvesting, low yields, even the packaging - except the price!  Made to sell for $60 in the US, a change in distribution created this amazing opportunity to enjoy top-shelf luxury at a very nice, everyday, price.

"I was very impressed with this set of wines produced by a company that owns no vineyards, but sources grapes from selected locations in Mendoza. The 2012 Malbec Grand Reserve sourced from Lujan de Cuyo, aged for one year in French oak barrels, has aromas of incense, spices and black and red cherries. The medium-bodied palate shows a profusion of fine-grained tannins that coat your mouth. It has a classical, serious profile, with restraint and poise. Drink 2015-2019."Wine Advocate 90 points

Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Villages La Daurelle 2012 Product #31928 (In Stock)
Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Villages La Daurelle 2012 Dom Philippe Plantevin CdR Villages La Daurelle 2012

In the warm, rich, 2012 vintage this long-time favorite is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah ad 10% each Mourvedre and Carignan, all aged in used French oak cask.  The nose is very complex, with aromas of black raspberry, wild blackberry, redcurrant, and a bold note of savory, herb-crusted, roast beef.  The palate is luxurious with almost a milk chocolate-like density and plushness framing the dark red fruit, seared meat, lavender and thyme flavors.  The ending is every bit as exciting as the beginning and middle, with a wash of fresh wild blackberry, savory herb, and dark chocolate gliding along over substantial, but silky smooth, tannins.

At 5 years from harvest, this is certainly "ready" in the sense that it delivers boatloads of immediate pleasure.  But this wine always ages longer and more gracefully than the appellation or price point suggests.  Pull a bottle out of your cellar in 2022 and I guarantee you'll be blown away.

Dom Philippe Plantevin Cdr Villages Cairanne 2012 Product #32018 (In Stock)
Dom Philippe Plantevin Cdr Villages Cairanne 2012 Dom Philippe Plantevin Cdr Villages Cairanne 2012

There's nothing shy about this intense, powerful, blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%) from the warm 2012 Rhone vintage.  Bold aromas of dark black cherry, black raspberry, leather, roasted meat, and more jump from the glass.  On the palate, it's as rich and luxurious as a top-notch Chateauneuf du Pape with layered flavors of kirsch, cherry, black plum, pepper, and sweet spice.  For all its ripeness and power, the texture is sophisticated and silky with juicy acids and very fine-grained, ripe, tannins. It's the most polished and refined version of this, Philippe Plantevin's top wine, we've ever tasted.  While it will certainly delight right now with rich meals, the wine will gain even more complexity and earthy depth over the next 10+ years.

"Upfront, forward notes of sweet cassis, blackberry, wood spice and vanilla, as well as an impressively textured and layered palate. Seamless, elegant and sexy, this modern styled blend of Grenache and Syrah (aged in 20% new oak) should be ready to go on release and have 7-8 years of longevity."Wine Advocate 88-90 points

Laderas De Cabama Rioja 2012 Product #32391 (In Stock)
Laderas De Cabama Rioja 2012 Laderas De Cabama Rioja 2012

Here's a super pleasing, nicely rich, vibrant and fun Tempranillo with plenty of Rioja smoke and spice to go with ripe blackberry and red berry fruit and smooth, smoky, finish.  Seriously fun with or without food.

"The 2012 Laderas de Cabama is a fresh Tempranillo from youngish vineyards from an extremely dry vintage. It fermented in cement tanks with selected yeasts and matured in French barriques for one year. It shows contained ripeness with a nice mixture of red and black fruit with some spices. The palate is fresher than I expected, with good acidity and very fine tannins. Very drinkable."Wine Advocate 90 points

Pago Casa Gran Falcata Arenal Tinto 2012 Product #32119 (In Stock)
Pago Casa Gran Falcata Arenal Tinto 2012 Pago Casa Gran Falcata Arenal Tinto 2012

“Arenal” refers to the sandy, free-draining, soils where Pago Casa Gran grows the grapes for this organically farmed blend of Garnacha Tintorera and Monestrell.  “Falcata” is the name of a special sword that was common in Valencia hundreds of years ago.  Each blade was made to measure for an individual warrior, forged and trimmed to be the same length as their arm.  When the fighter died, his blade was buried with him.

Winemaker Carlos Laso crafts his Arenal to reflect the region’s heritage by marrying the purity and elegance of well-drained, sandy, soils with Valencia’s intense ripeness and lots of minerality and spice from 14 months in French oak.  The wine is dark and deeply colored with powerful aromas of ink, dark black raspberry and a hint of mint.  On the palate it fills your mouth with deep dark fruit complicated by accents of earth, licorice, and chocolate.  The firm, powerful, finish makes it easy to see how this will develop over the next 10 years, but there’s no reason you can’t enjoy it now with grilled lamb!

Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2012 Convento Oreja Ribera Del Duero Crianza 2012

As the Wine Advocate says, this is "textbook" Ribera del Duero to drink now - 2022.

"Deep ruby. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, violet and vanilla carry a smoky overtone. Weighty yet lively on the palate, offering juicy dark berry flavors and suave candied lavender and spicecake qualities. Smooth, plush and seamless in character, finishing with repeating spiciness, supple tannins and a lingering note of dark berry preserves."  Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

"If last year I was impressed with the 2011, the 2012 Crianza from Convento Oreja might be even better. No signs of heat or overripeness here at all but perfectly ripe, terse fruit, integrated, balanced oak and a polished, sleek palate with fine tannins and good acidity. This is a textbook crianza from Ribera del Duero."Wine Advocate 92 points

Ch Brown Pessac-Leognan 2012 Product #30920 (In Stock)
Ch Brown Pessac-Leognan 2012 Ch Brown Pessac-Leognan 2012

A big, rich, Bordeaux with density from Merlot (50%) and cut from Cabernet Sauvignon.  Supple and tempting now - 2032.

"A big, broad-shouldered wine, the 2012 Brown hits the palate with serious intensity and slightly rough contours that are going to need time to settle down. The high presence of Merlot (70%) and pushed, ripe style add to the wine's considerable personality. A rush of black cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, licorice and incense leaves a positive last impression."  Vinous (Tanzer) 90 points

"Nicely packed, with energetic flavors of blackberry cobbler, blueberry paste and boysenberry coulis, carried by a brambly structure and pushed by anise and ganache accents on the finish. Shows solid grip and should do well with cellaring. This has added some weight since the barrel tasting."Wine Spectator 91 points

Clos Marsalette Pessac - Leognan Rouge 2012 Clos Marsalette Pessac - Leognan Rouge 2012

A young estate (created 2002) by the owner of the great St.  Emilion estates La Gaffeliere and La Mondotte, Clos Marsalette has quickly established itself as a leader on the gravely soils of Pessec-Leognan.  A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc aged 18 months in 50% new French oak.

“From the empire of the Neippergs, this brilliant 2012 Clos Marsalette has a gorgeous nose of Christmas fruitcake, cedar wood, smoked herbs, blackcurrants and jammy cherries. It is medium to full-bodied, silky smooth, very sexy, complex and a total hedonistic, intellectual turn-on. Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2012 Product #32390 (In Stock)
Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2012 Bodegas Roda Sela Rioja 2012

"Very aromatic with lavender, mushroom, stone and dark fruits on the nose. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. Fermented in large French oak vats. Finesse here. Drink or hold. 96% tempranillo, 3% graciano, 1% garnacha. A beauty from a beautiful year." James Suckling 93 points

"Fragrant aromas of ripe red berries, candied rose and incense. Spicy and penetrating in the mouth, offering juicy flavors of raspberry, bitter cherry and allspice. Shows very good focus and lift--and repeating red fruit and floral notes--on the long, gently tannic finish. This wine went through its secondary fermentation in large French oak foudres and was then moved into small, used French oak barrels for another year." Vinous (Raynolds) 91 points

"The 2012 Sela will be released in March 2015, and it’s a great example of Sela. It opens to bright red fruit, more shiny than 2011, and is still pretty young showing faint lactic notes and more traces of the barrel that should be absorbed with time. 2012 could be fresher and more accessible. It’s an elegant and balanced wine, with some fine-grained tannins that will be polished with bottle age. The palate is very tasty and has almost salty flavors that are quite gentle and velvety. In 2012 Sela was a blend of Tempranillo with 3% Graciano and 1% Garnacha. 99,383 bottles were produced."Wine Advocate 90 points
