Les Grands Arbres Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Product #33018 (In Stock)

You don't see much "Cabernet Vin De France" - but one taste of this fruit-filled value will make you thirsty for more.  Especially more made from clearly ripe and organically grown grapes, fermented cool, and aged in tank for maximum fruit flavor and freshness.  You'll find loads of dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit at the core of this juicy, easy-drinking, red with accents of herb, tobacco and cedar that evoke a bit of Bordeaux-like character. So treat it like Bordeaux if you're of a mind to and pare it with lamb or rare roast beef.  Or focus on the fleshy fruit and glug it down with a burger.  At this price, you really can't go wrong.

Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc France 2015 Product #33185 (In Stock)
Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc France 2015 Campet Ste Marie Chardonnay Pays d'Oc France 2015

We think of France's Languedoc as a hot region built to turn out hearty reds.  But Limoux, just south of Carcassonne, is higher and cooler than most of the rest of Languedoc with chalky limestone soils and cooling Mediterranean breezes - perfect for fine Chardonnay!  And this one is very fine indeed, made from just ripe-enough fruit (13.5 alcohol) that is fermented cool and aged 9 months in used French oak.

Pretty aromas of stone fruit, citrus and oak spice lead to a round, fleshy, mouthful of Honeycrisp apple and baked pear flavors accented by notes of lemon curd and toasted nut.  The fruit turns more white (peach, apricot, apple) on the finish with a touch of fresh butter and refreshing, vibrant, acids.  A fine Bourgogne Blanc and Macon alternative to enjoy with salads, seafood and poultry or just to sip on its own.  Outstanding value, too!

"Dark berries and cherry pit on the nose, lifted by a spicy pepper nuance. Smooth and appealingly sweet, offering plump blackberry and cherry flavors and a touch of candied licorice. Dusty tannins sneak in slowly on the finish, adding closing shape and grip."  Vinous (Raynolds) 89 points

Collemattoni Toscana Adone Rosso 2015 Product #32952 (In Stock)
Collemattoni Toscana Adone Rosso 2015 Collemattoni Toscana Adone Rosso 2015

We loved Collemattoni's 96 point Brunello di Montalcino 2012, but - truth be told - we probably liked this vibrant Toscana Rosso even more!  It's a blend of 95% Sangiovese from in and around the Brunello zone plus 5% Merlot for extra plumpness and depth.  Pretty aromas of violets, cherry and blackberry lead to a rich and zesty palate with good breadth and richness and a fine, food-friendly, finish.  A fine pizza/pasta red with the extra heft to handle a good steak, too.

"Fresh and fruity red with sliced lemon and chocolate character. Medium body. Firm finish."  James Suckling 90 points

Dom Foretal Beaujolais Villages 2015 Product #32964 (In Stock)
Dom Foretal Beaujolais Villages 2015 Dom Foretal Beaujolais Villages 2015

Jean-Yves Perraud farms just 20 acres of Gamay in Moulin-a-Vent and Villages-level vineyards between Fleurie and Chenas. In 2015, he turned out a winning, ripe, gulpable Beaujolais Villages that you'll love drinking for refreshment and pairing with roast chicken or any simple meal.  There's the concentration and ripeness you'd expect from 40 year-old vines and the generous 2015 harvest, with loads of dark red cherry and ripe strawberry fruit.  A blast of floral perfume and stony minerality adds interest and a just right pop of cherry acids keeps things fresh and fun.

Wine Advocate's score (87 points) misses the mark a bit, but the words are spot on: "The 2015 Beaujolais Villages needs a leash on the nose to hold back all those exuberant kirsch and dark cherry fruit bursting from the glass. But that is what you want from this vintage. The palate is succulent and ripe with dark cherries and strawberry, sweet to the core and though missing a little definition on the finish, you'd have consumed the entire bottle before you start vexing about that. Glug 'n enjoy."  Exactly!

Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015 Product #33165 (In Stock)
Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015 Ch Moulinat Bordeaux 2015

Chateau Moulinat is located on limestone, gravel and sandy soils in Bordeaux's Entre Deux Mers region, between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne.  It's 58% Merlot (for plump richness), 36% Cabernet Sauvignon (for structure and finesse) and 6% Cabernet Franc (for herby perfume). This all-tank red is utterly delicious right now (even though you can hold it for 3-5 years if you'd like).  It's remarkably plump, plush and rich and loaded with blackcurrant and dark cherry fruit.  The Cab Franc delivers pretty accents of dried herb and tobacco on the nose and palate while the Cab Sauv provides a nice, focused, touch of structure.

We're not the only ones who like 2015 Ch Moulinat.  The Washington Post's wine critic, Dave McIntyre, tweeted, "Textbook Bordeaux, with all the right flavors of graphite (pencil), black currant etc etc, but without the stress of a high price tag and the need to cellar it for years. What’s not to like about this wine? $14, and a terrific value."  His "official" review was just as enthusiastic:

"Textbook Bordeaux, offering the traditional “pencil” graphite aromas over scents of plum, cherry and blackcurrant. And the wine kept getting better over a few days, suggesting it will last for several years in your cellar. Sustainably farmed."  Washington Post ***/*** (Exceptional)

Palazzone Orvieto Classico Vignarco 2015 Product #31231 (In Stock)
Palazzone Orvieto Classico Vignarco 2015 Palazzone Orvieto Classico Vignarco 2015

We've featured Palazzone's other Orvietos before, but this year it was the Classico that really grabbed our attention.  It's a traditional blend of 50% Procanico, 30% Grechetto and dollops of Verdello, Drupeggio and Malvasia that comes together to deliver boatloads of classic Orvieto character.  What's that, you ask?  Try aromas and flavors of bright, fresh, sweet lemon juice with a twist of fennel frond and squeeze of honeysuckle.  Not a "light, crisp, neutral" Italian white, this sports big flavors and a rich, mouth-coating, texture and a long, mouthwatering, finish of lemon oil, honeysuckle, and mineral flavors lingering nicely.  There's enough body and interest and fruit to make this a joy to drink solo and it will sing with salads, seafood, and cheese.  A winning value that outperforms many wines at 2x the price.

The Recorba Ribera del Duero Tinto is an example of what happens when you get Tempranillo all the way ripe and then let it show it’s colors without any wood at all.  Big aromas and flavors of red plum, black cherry and raspberry take center stage with accents of natural spice, warm stones, and a touch of exotic sandalwood.  A huge “bang for the buck” Tempranillo to enjoy by itself or with pretty much anything you’d put on the grill.

Catena Malbec Mendoza 2015 375ml Product #32821 (In Stock)
Catena Malbec Mendoza 2015 375ml Catena Malbec Mendoza 2015 375ml

HALF-BOTTLE

"The impressive 2015 Catena Malbec is subtle, balanced and elegant. It mixes fruit from many different zones, with the grapes from the higher part of Valle de Uco fermented with full clusters, the medium part (Vista Flores, lower La Consulta) destemmed and put together with the full clusters from the higher altitude vineyards and the lower parts totally destemmed and in stainless steel. This is a complex blend that showcases the typicity of Malbec in the province of Mendoza with perfumed notes of violets and black cherries, and a touch of spices. The palate has great balance, elegance and subtleness with very fine tannins. Great value for money."Wine Advocate 91 points

Dark ruby in color, this Merlot showcases aromas of muddled blackberry with thyme, vanilla, plum preserves, and savory notes of toasted rye bread. The flavors start with jammy blackberry, caramelized vanilla, molasses, and black cherry notes with hints of Herbs du Provence. As the flavors start to evolve and linger on the finish, bright pomegranate, tart plum, American Oak vanilla nuances, and black currants come forth on the palate. Winery Notes

So much delicious fun, it needed a bigger (1.0 liter) bottle just to hold it!  If you're feeling geeky, this is from Germany's Rheingau - with Mosel, the best source for great Riesling - and is roughly a "halbtrocken" (half-dry) wine.  But what you really need to know it that it's delicious with bold peach and pink grapefruit aromas and flavors and a zesty, lemony, finish.  Think "fruity," not "sweet," and drink this solo or with sausages, turkey and more!

"Delicate nuances of camphor and mint complicate peach tea aromas. Rich and dense, offering precise flavors of lime, green fig and sage, nicely framed by zingy acidity. Finishes peppery and long, and incredibly saline; this is almost salty."  Vinous (d'Agata) 90 points

Poggio Alloro Chianti DOCG 2015 Product #31858 (In Stock)
Poggio Alloro Chianti DOCG 2015 Poggio Alloro Chianti DOCG 2015

Here’s proof that great farming and straight-ahead winemaking can deliver fine Chianti – and even finer value! – from outside the Classico zone.  More and more Chianti is either all Sangiovese or Sangiovese strengthened with dollops of Cabernet or Syrah.  Here, a family dedicated to natural, organic, farming turns back to Tuscan tradition to make Chianti from an old-school blend of grapes:  Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Ciliegiolo.  Sangiovese gives the wine heft and structure, while Canaiolo adds volume, Colorino deepens the color, and Ciliegiolo – Sangiovese’s genetic parent – soft red cherry fruit.

In the fantastic 2015 vintage, all of this comes together to deliver a ripe, zesty, Chianti that’s very easy to drink.  Ripe black and red cherry fruit forms the wine’s core and gains interest and complexity from accents of crushed violets, red licorice, rich earth, and sweet spice accents.  There’s no oak influence at all, allowing the ripe fruit to shine through while retaining outstanding freshness and just the right touch of structure at the end.  A fine party Chianti, for sure, and one that will be as much fun to drink with a big bowl of pasta as with burgers or rosemary-scented pork.

Jackhammer Pinot Noir Monterey County 2015 Product #32306 (In Stock)
Jackhammer Pinot Noir Monterey County 2015 Jackhammer Pinot Noir Monterey County 2015

Check out the back label here - the argument is that a hammer is the right tool for ANY job and that this wine is pretty much the perfect choice for any occasion.  Not sure about the hammer, but we're all-in on the wine!  This is 100% Pinot Noir from Monterey, on California's Central Coast, and the outstanding (for Pinot) 2015 vintage. Perfectly ripe at a very Pinot-like 13.5%, with a just right touch of wood influence and a great, everyday, price, this is built to bring down the house!

Big, fresh, aromas of cherry, plum, cola and a touch of smoke lead to a fresh, sweetly fruited, palate of crushed cherries/berries, spice and earth.  Deliciously unsubtle, it delivers bold flavors without any excess weight and a clean, mouthwatering, finish that will pull your back for more.  Tasting more like $25 than $15, this is a terrific weeknight or party Pinot for this year and next.
