Varietal Nebbiolo
Vintage 1999

A blend of 85% Nebbiolo and 15% other local varieties such as Pignolo or Rossola Nera from the foothills of the Alps in northern Lombardy.  The wine spends 4 years in large, old, casks and then rested quietly in the bottle until ready.  Lovely aromas and flavors of fresh strawberry, dried cherry, and plenty of spice.  Time has mellowed the tannins, but this is still fresh, clean, and full of flavor.  A steal.

"When we have a chance to taste a properly aged wine that has been kept in the winery cellar for nearly two decades before release, we should celebrate. This current release is a 1999 vintage nebbiolo from northern Lombardy. It was aged for 16 years in 100-liter barrels made from Slovenian oak. The wine has developed beautifully, offering a full spice rack of cloves, nutmeg, dried plums and cherries. At $30, it's a steal for a fully mature nebbiolo. Alcohol by volume: 12 percent."  ***/Exceptional Dave McIntyre, The Washington Post
